USC Thornton School of Music ❤️Community, Tabla, Empowerment, Love

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

An energising afternoon at my @universalmusicindia offices with an inspiring delegation from @uscedu . It was a pleasure to welcome the deans and leaders from USC Thornton School of Music, the USC Iovine and Young Academy, USC Glorya Kaufman School of Dance and USC Roski School of Art and Design.

The conversation was open, ambitious and full of possibility. The deans brought an instinct for what is happening now, and the imagination to see where it could go next. The students are already shaping the future of music and culture.

I left thinking about what we might build together: new pathways between USC and the music business, opportunities for students to work with emerging talent, and a deeper connection between USC and UMG. When creativity, innovation and real world experience come together, there is so much we can do.

As a Berkelee parent, I never expected to say this, but I left an even bigger USC fan than before. Looking forward to continuing the conversation.

The future belongs to leaders who do the work before the world is watching.
The hard decisions. The quiet pivots. The standards held without applause.
These are not the parts around the win. They are what make the win possible.
Leadership is built in private. The future is built there.

Few artists embody joy, musicianship and boundless imagination quite like Stevie Wonder @steviewonderlegacy 😍 His music has always been an inspiration to SADUBAS, a reminder that virtuosity and experimentation can coexist with groove, playfulness, humanity and a deep sense of purpose.

So witnessing “Songs in the Key of Life at 50: Reimagined” at @uscthornton and @uscvandv was something special. The one-night celebration brought together USC Thornton students, faculty and alumni with guest artists @tonestith @averywilson @coryhenry @lavancecolley and @iamjefferylewis reimagining one of the most expansive and enduring albums in American music.

The evening was co-curated by Dean Jason King @jasonkingsays and the legendary Greg Phillinganes @greg_phillinganes_live , Stevie’s longtime collaborator, keyboardist and musical director, with Greg providing musical direction and Jason directing the production as part of Thornton’s Beyond Category initiative.

And then the extraordinary became almost surreal: Stevie himself joined the students onstage for “Love’s in Need of Love Today.”

Fifty years later, the music felt completely alive. The joy, the generosity, the groove, the imagination, and Stevie’s sheer delight in making music with another generation were sublime to witness.

That spirit inspires SADUBAS: honor what came before, stay curious, keep experimenting, and never lose the joy. ❤️

What a gift.

Still feeling the energy from Deevona in Chicago. 🔊❤️

Packed in close. Everyone moving. Music everywhere. No real separation between artists and audience, just all of us grooving together.

What stayed with us most from Chicago was the community that formed around this night. Artists watching and supporting each other’s sets. Tikka masala calzones. Friends, families, neighbors, and people who had just met squeezed together in the same space. Conversations between performances. People dancing inches from us. And when the rain pushed everyone closer together, the whole thing somehow became even warmer and more connected.

@spaceshiftcollective created that feeling with real intention and care, a space where artists and community weren’t separate from each other, but part of the same experience.

Chicago, we felt the love. ❤️‍🔥 thank you @faisalmohyuddin and @asewonder for the videos. #chicago

What a joy to finally see @sadubas (Robin Sukhadia + Ameet Mehta) live in their first-ever performance in Chicago as part of this past Saturday's Deevona Sound System gathering at @shrutiboxstudios. Closing out the day was the incredible @discostan.

Huge gratitude to @spaceshiftcollective for inviting SADUBAS to be part of Deevona Sound System ❤️

The #chicago rains brought everyone closer together. What could have scattered the energy instead made the whole experience feel more intimate, communal, and alive. We loved every minute of it.

It was incredibly special to share the stage with so many brilliant artists, in a space that felt so intentionally curated, with real care for the music, the neighborhood, the artists, and the many diasporic stories moving through it all.

Thank you SpaceShift for creating a space where experimentation, community, and culture could genuinely meet. Chicago, you were beautiful. Special thanks to @sidsid96 and Kitundu for the videos ❤️
