Tableaux: Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec December 16, 2021 New start time 6pm All levels drawing class at 6:30pm Free! Donations encouraged We are happy to announce Tableaux is moving to Thursday! For our first Thursday Tableaux we are looking back to one of our favorite artists and turn of the century zeitgeists, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec. As a decadent hedonist who was influenced heavily by his impressionist contemporaries, Toulouse-Lautrec painted vivid scenes of intimacy, self indulgence, and debauchery. In his name, we hope to bring a little of the Moulin Rouge to Lot 45! In the first round of modeling @cadillacjac will pose in bed, inspired by Lautrec’s Le Lit (The Bed) as well as other portraits of sleeping, waking, and stretching under covers. Our second round will focus on one of his biggest inspirations: the bar! And we’ll have our muse sitting among us, sipping, dancing, and getting to know fellow guests. We are delighted to have Jeremiah @feralappliance with us again, sharing records from his collection - spinning us an atmosphere befitting a modern day Montemarte. @msdarker will lead a short talk at 6:30 pm in the front room - where she will discuss the mark making stilt and inspirations of Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec- and offer ways you might want to explore drawing in a similar way. Those who want more instruction can clip a red clothespin to their drawing board or sketchbook and Dorothy will check in with you throughout the night. As always, charcoal, paper, pencils, and drawing boards are all available for you to use, just show up! Like all bars, Lot 45 requires proof of vaccination for entry. We ask that all eating be done in the garden room, and only drinking take place in the bar. Tableaux is a consent forward event. Please ask before touching, hugging, and kissing. My enthusiasm battery is fully charged, thanks to the conversing and scheming I’ve been doing with @shadow_traffic these past few weeks. Their knack for carving out magical worlds in unexpected places, with enthusiastic company is something I’ve admired for years. I’ve enjoyed the alchemy of their events as both an artist and a guest, and I come away inspired and connected no matter how I’ve participated. How do they do it? I’m reveling in the opportunity to learn from and with them - as we collaborate to bring forth some magical new worlds for you to explore. You will be able to join these worlds on Saturday, January 1st, 2022--the beginning of the first year of the rest of our lives. We are developing four stories of glee, introspection and relaxation for you at Nancy Manocherian's the @thecelltheatre Come with an open mind and a closed mouth. I’m delighted to announce that I’ll be doing a solo hang @exhibitsalon this coming month! The title of the showing is Fans/Flames and will be a collection of paintings and painted objects - and a few prints too! Join me on Tuesday December 7, at 6pm- 8pm for an opening fete. @exhibitsalon is in Greenpoint, on Driggs. I’m so very excited for this new work, renewed focus, the health that has ushered in these blessings, and for @exhibitsalon for asking me ( dear @braggie who I followed there), @drenushakolshi who now maintains my locks, and of course the fabulous @magdalenafoxny who is making it all happen. She’s gonna be there live, and in portrait form. Facts: My fathers family shopped, socialized, and went to church on this street. This month’s music - I’m excited to have our friend Jeremiah on the decks. Jeremiah's eclectic collection of cosmic disco, funk, boogie, house, and Italo odds and ends gets the dance floor churning while simultaneously overloading Shazam's servers. Jeremiah has been playing vinyl in dancehalls and drinking holes around the five boroughs for over a decade. He can currently be heard on his WFMU show "Sunrise Lamentations" as well as online on The Face Radio show "Gold Afternoon Fix." ….. Get your dance on or settle into one of our sumptuous couches, pick up a drawing boards and move your pencils round the page.
