✨ Swing meets Cape Town flair!
At our last Swing and Latin Ballroom Party on 25 October, our member Janak shared a smooth West Coast Swing with Jayne from West Coast Swing Cape Town, runner-up follower in our Jack and Jill event 💃
Dancing to Walk That Walk by Bakermat & Nic Hanson, they brought the groove and connection that make West Coast Swing so addictive.

It was a pleasure to teach Lindy Hop at @five6seven8ds. Thank you to @5678alissa for trusting me with her students! And thank you to all the fabulous students that showed up!

Thank you to @anna_jonatan_ for the partnered Shim Sham inspiration, it was delicious working with your rhythmic ideas in connection.

I'm thrilled to be teaching at @five6seven8ds.
Spanning many years, this dance studio has been such a source of joy for me. So it's an honour to be teaching my love of solo jazz in partnered Lindy Hop there.

Beginner Lindy Hop, no partners required.

Jazzuary 2025 - DAY 15
CHALLENGE YOURSELF
(working with @oxfordlindyhoppers prompts)
🎶 Artie Shaw - When the Quail Come Back to San Quentin

This was Skye and @frida.segerdahl's choreography from their Tuesday's - free to attend - solo jazz class🙏🙏. I decided to practice it again for this prompt as I find a lot of the rhythms quite challenging. As I do a carpeted floor 🤣🤣#solojazzproblems

But their rhythm combinations are delicious and my feet would love to make them happen.

Jazzuary 2025 - DAY 12
DANCE SMALL
(working with @oxfordlindyhoppers prompts)
🎶 Erskine Hawkins - Shipyard Ramble

The prompt was to dance in a small space, but keep up the energy. I believe this may be my actual go to solo jazz dance vibe already😅

ARMS
(working with @oxfordlindyhoppers prompts)
🎶 Glen Miller - Johnson Rag

Loved revisiting @secrets_of_solo videos on using hands and arms. I love being reminded to think of my shoulders.
6 months later and I can already see improvements ☺️ thank you @ksenia_parkhatskaya

I love me a frozen moment! Though may have taken it too literally and forgotten to breathe 😅

Jazzuary 2025 - DAY 7
ELEVATIONS
(working with @oxfordlindyhoppers prompts)
🎶 Lionel Hampton - Lavender Coffin

I really struggle with my knees and hips to get super low, or should I say I struggle getting back UP 🤣 I would love to work on this to get physically stronger and more agile to express myself at all levels.

Jazzuary 2025 - DAY 6
FIND THE BEAUTY
(working with @oxfordlindyhoppers prompts)
🎶 Duke Ellington Orchestra - Stepping into Swing Society

Mentally I understand beauty more so in dance, than the ugly. For me, it's about elegance, poise and clean lines. So I tried to imbue this into a song I thought was rather beautiful in sound.

Disclaimer: Ugly and Beautiful dance techniques/aesthetics are entirely subjective. And I often find the "ugly" things about dance it's most beautiful.
