MARCH cards - donโ€™t make the mistake of believing you can remember this from memory. You maybe can in the comfort of a lecture room or scenario, but in a real situation youโ€™ll be overwhelmed.

Simply get your checklist out and work through it - donโ€™t let ego or pride dictate what you do. by @tactical_trauma

**Kit Post**

Plate carriers, and in fact all personal kit, is exactly that - personal. What works for me doesnโ€™t meant it works for you and we all have our own way. Your kit will continually evolve, both in terms of what becomes available and your own preferences. Scope of practice, role, mission set, armed or unarmed and many other things will determine what you have on your kit, where and why.

This was my set up for UKR - itโ€™s not perfect, its been put together over a long period of time and trust me things move around on this set up a lot! Iโ€™ve got level IV plates which are a bit heavy but Iโ€™m a big lad and can cope ๐Ÿคฃ itโ€™s also a QRB.

1. Drop down pouch - CAT TQโ€™s, celox, Z gauze, seals,FFDโ€™s, airways, crib cards (MARCH, HeliOps etc)

2. Cyalumes - blue, orange and 2 IR

3. Olight Warrior Mini - itโ€™s small but can illuminate a footy pitch

4. CAT Gen 7 TQ

5. Foretrex 101 - I think theyโ€™re on about gen 6 or 7 now, but this is the OG, is still going strong and still does the GPS trick, set to MGRS

6. Level IV helmet

7. IFAK - FFD, celox, chest seal, wipes and another pouch with another FFD, all next to *17 which is another TQ (SOF-TT) and raptor shears

8. Comms - covert ear tube, headset, VHF & UHF radios which are analogue and scrambled. I do have digital comms but in austere conditions and in Donbas I found these to work better than digital. Headset can fit under my helmet and plugs into the PTT (we used to call them pressels ๐Ÿ‘ด๐Ÿป).

9. On my left side is all spare pouches which can hold smoke, flash bangs, weapon cleaning kit and inside the cummerbund is 3 magazine pouches

10. Strobe and IR strobe. This can go on my helmet but itโ€™s also easily switched on by an oppo when itโ€™s on my back

11. Pocket Bible, usually goes in my side panel with the soft armour level 3A

12. Loopline and karibenar

13. Drag handle, this is a pretty hefty set up as I weigh 100kg without kit - so itโ€™s got to be able to drag me + the weight of what Iโ€™m wearing

14. Drop down pouch, this can have a bit of everything in it if Iโ€™m separated from my other kit for a day

15. Admin pouch, lighter, pliers, rubber bands

16. PTT

17. SOF-T by @tactical_trauma

โ€ข Perishable Skills

In the quest to be as high speed an operator as possible the basics and fundamentals can get left behind in the social media era. We will always default to the lowest level of our training and if we constantly and persistently miss the basics, when the time comes to use perishable skills, in the moment - it wonโ€™t go well.

Weapon handling and training is one of those perishable skills, and whilst being ally is of course life savingโ€ฆdoing the ordinary extraordinarily well is what is really required. Donโ€™t be fooled by the flat range insta video which will be the 1000th time itโ€™s been ran to show perfection. A flat range run is a fixed course, you know where to go, when and what targets are where - essentially the opposite of anything that you would encounter in a non permissive environment. However it does have its place in the training continuum - if all the misses, trips, falls, dropped mags and botched mag changes were shown Iโ€™d take these videos more seriously as thatโ€™s where the real training and learning is. @threat_reduction_ltd is great for showing when it doesnโ€™t go to plan, not just the sexy stuff.

Whether this is your job or something you practice for future deployments - the juice comes from the squeeze which is in the mundane, boring and repetitive action of marksmanship principles, moving safely & efficiently, again and again - not just a tight group on a static target from a static firing position. Itโ€™s not cool, would make a terrible video and wonโ€™t gain anyone any followers. It is however the foundation thatโ€™s needed so that when the time comes to use those skills on deployment, when that question is asked of you, the default to your lowest level of training will be the highest level of proficiency in the fundamentals.

โ€ขโ€ข Watch Sunday, or somethingโ€ฆ

My Omega Speedmaster moonwatch, not automatic - itโ€™s manual as the original watches were used on Apollo. Itโ€™s got a lot of dings and scratches in it, Iโ€™ve worn it a lot over last 10 years because watches are for wearing.

A little bit of personalisation with my unit on the clasp, and inside the clasp is my service number and unit moto.

Itโ€™s a classic and iconic look, great on the wrist whatever the occasion or where I am - which is the sign of such a classic watch. In the field or in a nice restaurant with the long haired general.

โ€ขโ€ข UK legal EDC folder from @westcoast_bladeworks

Iโ€™ve got a few knives from Matt, and as youโ€™d expect from a hand made knife the weight, feel and qualify is incredible. I donโ€™t know the specifications in terms of steel used, so wonโ€™t claim to. Iโ€™m sure Matt can post in comments more about the technicalities of this specific knife.

I wanted something thatโ€™s not mass produced & commercially available, something I could speak to the person who actually would be making it.

It was with me in Donbas, used it for lots of EDC stuff whilst there and it retained its edge like knew. by @tactical_trauma

โ€ขโ€ข Iโ€™ve been thinking about changing my plate carrier (for absolutely no reason).

This rig is a total Frankenstein of all sorts of other rigs cobbled together over the years, itโ€™s had a lot of work at a tailor going over the stitching 3 or 4 times, and it never let me down in Ukraine.

Yet, being the absolute kit pest I am - of course Iโ€™m thinking โ€˜yeah so letโ€™s change everythingโ€™.

Should I leave it, it works and is proven OR why havenโ€™t I changed it several times already? by @tactical_trauma

Another day another watch.

My Maratac LSA (Land Sea Air) Carbon Fibre, on a @zulualphastraps Blackbeard with a @sangin.instruments wrist compass.

This watch has some great details, the marbled carbon fibre and engraved back - the lume on it is also really impressive in zero light conditions. It also feels weird on the wrist when youโ€™re used to wearing steel diver watches - because it weighs absolutely nothing.

I love to feel the weight of a watch on my wrist, but the carbon fibre was too much of a unique thing for me not to get it about 5 years ago.

As youโ€™d expect the ZA strap and Sangin compass really finish it off.

The folder is a UK legal EDC hand made by Matt @westcoast_bladeworks

โ€ขโ€ข The Elected Political Class Is The New Aristocracy

We replaced the aristocracy with an elected political class, and all we did was replace privilege with corruption.

The aristocracy had its faults, but it was at least expected to uphold a sense of duty, lead from the front and take responsibility for the people and communities it governed.

We abolished inherited privilege, just to create a new establishment without principle, careerism without conviction, self-interest without shame, and corruption without consequence.

At least the old system understood one thing - privilege carried an obligation to serve. by @tactical_trauma
