Happy birthday to Mila!!! 🩷🩷
Our favorite middle kid!!! 🩷🩷

Traveling the world as a family has its ups and its downs. One of the best things about choosing this way of life is getting to live at a slower pace, letting childhood linger a little longer, and soaking up “us” as much as time will allow.

But it’s so strange to yearn to hold her hand a little longer while being so proud of the woman she’s growing into. She grew up twirling in pink tutus, following the steps of her big sister, while dragging her brother by the hand, with an eye always looking for a potential cat to hug. And then, as she twirled her way through numerous continents, her love for art, people, land, cultures, and equality grew so much stronger. Still looking for cats to hug.

This past year, I feel like she has found her voice, her purpose, after miles and miles of bumpy roads. And watching her navigate that is inspiring. If the world needs anything, it’s more empathy, and Mila brings that in ten-fold.

So what does a 17-year-old who lives in a camper want for her special day? To take her newly dyed pink hair to get her septum pierced and pay respects to her favorite songwriter. And that’s exactly what we did. Traffic and all.

Mila has been asking to get her septum pierced for about a year now. Almost daily. 🙃 But this mama needed some reassurance and our friend Aimee delivered just that. Thanks for your guidance and friendship, @aimee.bartee 🩷

The crew who opted out of watching the piercing and sitting on the cute couch instead.

Her piercer @adriancastillo was so friendly and put her at ease right away. He explained each step and made sure she was doing ok all along the way. He is marking off the area to be pierced with a marker here.

She’s tough. Especially since she’s not a fan of needles.

Here it goes!

That smile says it all!! She says it hurt but it was totally worth it.

Thanks again @adriancastillo @108.us and @aimee.bartee for making her dreams come true today!!

Next stop??

To visit the memorial wall of her favorite songwriter, Elliott Smith. This is spot where he took this photo for Figure 8’s album cover.

We all took turns because we all love him. 📸.

The Micro Navel

I discovered the subtle beauty of micro navels while trying to find interesting ways to resurrect my clients’ long-forgotten navel piercings.

I would hear the same story over and over: 16 and loving it, 36 and feeling too old and not loving the reminder left behind. It kind of hit me that a piece of jewelry is better than staring at an empty hole.

To be clear, I don’t think anyone ages out of piercings, but I do believe that your jewelry should evolve with you. Although, if you hang on long enough, you will eventually be back in style. 🤪

The navel, in my opinion, is a perfect place to dress up. Similar to an earlobe, it’s just begging to be decorated. Not every navel is a candidate, which makes it feel even more special when it is. The body has a way of telling us what it wants and what it can handle.

Traditionally, I always found navel jewelry to be too clunky. With most of my work, I try to complement the body and not make the piercings look forced or the focal point. Quietly confident! ❤️‍🔥

Spring is here, summer is around the corner. Let’s either fill that empty hole or make a new one and get you adorned.

DM me if you want to do an anatomy consultation or order jewelry. Follow the link in my bio to schedule an appointment.
