I’m still overwhelmed with gratitude for everyone who showed up, donated, volunteered, and helped make our Check for a Lump fundraiser such a meaningful day. Raising over $1,200 for such an important cause is something I’ll never take for granted. 🩷

What made this event so special was seeing the Jiu Jitsu and yoga communities come together as one. Two different practices, united by the same values of compassion, strength, and service. Every person who showed up brought something special, and together we created something bigger than any one of us.

A heartfelt thank you to 12th Street Jiu Jitsu for opening your doors and providing the space, to everyone who donated their time, services, and resources, and to every single person who came out to support this cause. You helped turn an idea into something truly beautiful.

This is what Twisted Lotus is all about. Bringing people together, serving others, and using what we love to make a difference in the lives of others.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you. This community is something special, and I’m incredibly grateful to be a part of it. 🩷🙏

Together, we can make a difference. #yogalife #jiujitsu #community #charity #kindness

I started my weight loss journey at 375lbs in February 2025, I hit a milestone this week of being solidly under the 250lb mark. That’s 125lbs lost or a 1/3rd of my total starting body weight in 20 months. People always try to give you motivation about the work you are putting in the effort you are putting in and it’s hard to listen to that sometimes because I see this as debt, years of my kids and wife’s life where dad couldn’t do this or that. The motivation that makes the impact is the love and support of friends and family willing to get in the trenches and struggle with you, so since you don’t get the credit let me thank you now. @spacebunsbjj @the_real_deal_85 @ragnardamighty @brushnovice @veterans_breakthrough @12stjiujitsu @josemunoz88

William officially has his first BJJ tournament in the books! 🥉💜

He competed at the @azbjjleague Southwest Classic on Saturday, and we couldn’t be prouder.

He was the lightest kid in his bracket, competing in a division with no weight cap. And he had a solid first match!

He controlled the stand-up exchanges, worked for his takedown, and then his opponent reversed the position and came out on top.

But William kept fighting the entire time.

And you know what made me happiest?

He didn’t get the result he wanted, but he walked off the mats with dry eyes, a smile, and genuine pride in himself. 🥹💜

For his first tournament, THAT was the win we wanted to see.

A HUGE thank you to Coach @josemunoz88 at @12stjiujitsu for encouraging William to step onto the competition mats and helping him build the confidence to do something hard.

Jose has helped him grow in more than jiu jitsu. Seeing William handle disappointment without feeling like he’d failed is a pretty big deal for us.

First tournaments are intimidating, especially when you’re the smaller kid. He showed up, tried what he’s been learning, kept fighting, and left proud of his effort.

Winning is fun. Medals are exciting. But seeing your kid face something difficult and still believe in himself? THAT’S the good stuff. 💜

Next up: @veterans_breakthrough No-Gi Tournament next month!

William is in Pee-Wee Boys Super Heavy (under 97 lbs) and we’d love to find him some opponents.

Know a little grappler in that division? Let’s get these boys some matches! 🥋

There’s a reason behind what we do.

This fundraiser is about more than Jiu Jitsu, yoga, or wearing pink. It’s about coming together as a community to support those affected by breast cancer and help make a difference through Check for a Lump.

At Twisted Lotus, we believe strength isn’t just about what we can do on the mats. It’s about how we show up for others, stand together, and turn something we love into something that serves a greater purpose.

Every bit of support matters. Every conversation matters. And sometimes, simply showing up can mean more than we realize.

Join us October 18th at 11 AM at 12th Street Jiu Jitsu for donation-based yoga, massages, and a pink-out open mat. Wear pink and represent for a cause.

Let’s use our community to make a difference. #jiujitsu #yogalife #breastcancerawareness #community #arizona

Kara went 2-0 at AZBJJL on Saturday, with one submission and one win by points! 🥇💜

And we are SO proud of this girl.

This was only her second tournament, and stepping into a bigger competition than her first one at @veterans_breakthrough was a pretty big ask.

We only require her to compete in one gi and one no gi tournament a year, both through Veterans Breakthrough. So @azbjjleague was a bonus tournament and an opportunity to challenge herself beyond what we normally ask of her.

She was confident, sure of herself, and played her top game exactly the way she’s been training it.

Honestly, seeing her walk onto those mats with that kind of confidence was incredible.

And a huge thank you goes to Coach @josemunoz88 at 12th St. BJJ for seeing the gold medalist in her long before she could see it in herself, and for working with her to build that confidence. 💜

She’s grown so much since we moved to @12stjiujitsu in January, both in her jiu jitsu and in how she carries herself.

But you know what made me even prouder than the wins?

How she treated her opponent.

She introduced herself before the match, complimented the girl’s shoes (because apparently we’re making friends before trying to strangle each other 😂), and bowed while shaking the opposing coach’s hand after her first win.

She was friendly, humble, and respectful from beginning to end.

And THAT is the biggest win for us.

Winning is exciting. Gold medals are awesome. But winning or losing, the way you treat people matters.

That’s the kind of competitor we want her to become, and she showed us that repeatedly on Saturday.

The medal is pretty cool, too, though. 😂🥇

And if you look closely at the photos, you might catch her Lil’ Jiu Jitsu Monster set from Uncle Retro at @retrograpplershop peeking through! 💜

Next up, she’s registered for the Veterans Breakthrough No-Gi Tournament next month!

She’s still looking for an opponent in the Junior White Belt division, under 121 lbs!

If you know a young lady who wants to compete, let’s get these girls a match! 💜

Some of the best things you get from jiu jitsu have nothing to do with the technique you learned that day.

It’s the people.

The ones who see you walk in and immediately ask if you want a round.
Who know your game well enough to make you work for everything.
Who expose the holes you’ve been trying very hard to pretend aren’t there. 😂
Who push you without turning every roll into the ADCC finals.
Who notice when you’re getting better.
Who are genuinely happy when you finally hit the thing they’ve watched you struggle with for months.

And somewhere between trying to choke each other and arguing about whether that was actually a sweep, they become your people. 💜

That’s one of my favorite things about jiu jitsu.

You show up because you want to learn how to grapple.

Then you realize the people you’re doing all those rounds with become a pretty big part of why you keep coming back.

So value the people who save you a round.

And if you need some people to train with, come get some rounds at @12stjiujitsu . 💜

We’ll be happy to see you walk through the door. And then probably try to choke you. 😂
