Karthik Pandian & Midway Contemporary Art present
a fundraiser for Mike Forcia

Fundraiser CLOSED - we raised $26,722.45 for @mikeforcia

Mike Forcia (Bad River Anishinaabe) is an American Indian Movement activist who has been working tirelessly on the streets of Minneapolis to end Indigenous homelessness for over 20 years. In July, Mike was admitted to the hospital with a severe blood infection. While resolving the infection, doctors discovered an aortic aneurysm which needs to be repaired as soon as possible. Mike is currently without health insurance and his medical bills are mounting.

Since 2021, artist Karthik Pandian has been working closely with Mike on performances, exhibitions, and films, several of which have been presented by Midway Contemporary Art in Minneapolis. Karthik and Midway have reached out to a number of artists who have generously donated works to try and help Mike pay off the tens of thousands of dollars in medical bills he has already received so he can move forward and get the care he needs to survive his heart condition.

In addition to artworks for sale, there are donation buttons at the bottom of the page which can be used to contribute cash. All proceeds from the sale and donations will go directly to Mike Forcia to pay off his medical bills.

Above, in a photograph taken by Karthik, Mike is pictured at his land on the Bad River Reservation, where he hopes to move one day. Your generosity will help him see that day and many more to come.

Thank you to the artists! And thank you for giving

Etna, 2025. Oil on asphalt dipped felt. 21.5 x 33.25 inches (unframed). Courtesy of the artist.

In returning to my alchemical roots, I am delighted to watch the unstable ground of asphalt provide a space for the oil paint to mutate and find its identity as a material. There are some obvious technical details that contribute to the battle between the materials, like whether or not I apply black gesso, which sometimes I do. In the end, the industrial ground is what dictates the range in the paintings. They are both explosively abstract and unstable, and I revel in the translation of Etna being ‘I Burn’, which is how I view myself as

From wall carpets to string sculptures, this week’s reviews roundup surveys exhibitions across Dublin, London, New York, Paris, Taos, and Tokyo. At Kerlin Gallery, Kathy Prendergast brings an unorthodox subjectivity to her revisions of maps; a group show at Goldsmiths Centre for Contemporary Art highlights arts of illness and disability; at Marian Goodman, Matt Saunders photographs the condition of celebrity; William Anastasi turns absence and removal into a perceptual labyrinth at Galerie Jocelyn Wolff; Noa Eshkol’s carpets adorn the walls of the Musée d’Art et d’Histoire du Judaïsme; in New Mexico, six artists’ earthen works reverberate “with a power both ancient and symbolic”; and Kazuko Miyamoto imagines wilder geometries at Take Ninagawa.

Matt Saunders’ works are a painting/photography hybrid whose final form is a photographic print. At their most basic, his works begin with sketches derived from film and television stills. These sketches are then used as negatives, either contact printed (laid directly on top of photo paper and then developed), or placed in an enlarger. As negatives, the sketches are done in reverse - those parts which appear lighter in the photograph are darker on the painted negative and vice versa.

At this year’s Summer in the City, we are presenting a new work by Matt Saunders. For more information, please send us an email at gallery@martinasbaek.com

@208linden at @mariangoodmangallery exhibition walkthrough ✨ On view through August 7

🎨 Matt Saunders: On an Overgrown Path
🗓 Jun 25–Aug 7, 2026
📍 Marian Goodman, 385 Broadway

Matt Saunders’s exhibition On an Overgrown Path at Marian Goodman in New York presents new work embracing chance and contingency more closely than ever before. Saunders undertakes investigations into the complex and open-ended interactions of materials and their making, exploring the border between photography and painting through hybrid forms that destabilize traditional media and engage in improvisation suspended between states of creation.
