October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month 🎀, and for me, this is about more than wearing pink—it’s about honoring the people and the stories behind the ribbon.
Through Rell Raw Uncut, I’ve had the privilege of highlighting some incredible warriors, survivors, and thrivers, including Kisha DuPree, Monique Bass, Kev Lawrence, Carla Biagini, Sha Foskey-Thomas, Denise Oliphant, Melissa Correa, and Mimi Frazier. Each journey is different, but every story represents strength, courage, faith, perseverance, and hope.
And this is deeply personal for me. I honor the memory of my grandmother, Sallie Hardy, whose battle with breast cancer ended in 1992. Her life and memory are a major reason this cause means so much to me. 💕🕊️
This October, we wear pink:
🎀 For those currently fighting.
🎀 For those in remission.
🎀 For the survivors and thrivers.
🎀 For those waiting on answers.
🎀 For the families and loved ones standing beside them.
🎀 And for those whose battles ended, but whose names, stories, and memories we continue to carry with love.
Rell Raw Uncut honors ALL of you. 💗
Keep fighting. Keep sharing your story. Keep spreading awareness. And most importantly—GET CHECKED. Early detection matters.

This is bigger than just putting together an event for me. 🎀

Breast cancer touched my life long before I truly understood what breast cancer even was.

In 1992, I lost my grandmother, Sallie Hardy, to this disease. I was only 10 years old. At that age, you know someone you love is gone, but you don't fully understand everything that loss will mean as you get older.

Now I do.

There are so many moments I wish she could have been here for. I wish she could've watched me grow into the man I am today. I wish she could've seen me get married. Most of all, I wish I would've had more time to sit with her, listen to her stories, learn from her experiences and receive some of the wisdom that only a grandmother can give.

That's something you can't get back.

Years later, life has brought breast cancer back into my world in a completely different way.

Through Rell Raw Uncut, I've been blessed to sit down with survivors and thrivers like @k15ha, @kevykev220 and @2becarla and simply listen.

Their stories changed my perspective.

I heard strength. I heard fear. I heard determination. I heard people choosing to keep living, loving, laughing and moving forward despite everything they had been through.

And somewhere along the way, this event stopped feeling like something I wanted to do.

It became something I felt I needed to do.

So when we come together on October 17th, we're not just wearing pink.

We're remembering the people who should still be here.

We're standing beside the people who are fighting right now.

We're celebrating the survivors and thrivers who remind us what courage looks like.

And for me personally, I'm honoring a woman who left this earth when I was just 10 years old but whose impact on my life never left.

Grandma Sallie, this night is for you. 🕊️💗

October 17th, we celebrate life, strength, memories and the people we love.

No one should ever have to fight alone. 🎀

So i ask myself everyday why do I feel so passionate about doing this breast cancer event? What motivates me, what drives me? The answer is a couple of things.
1. Im doing this to my honor My late grandmother Sallie Hardy who lost her battle with breast cancer back in 1992. She was a wonderful woman and I miss that she never got to see me get married or just the kind of person I grew up to be. She was a strong willed woman who raised 3 kids the best she knew how. Being that i was only 10 when she passed, I feel like i missed out on a lot of what she could have passed on to me as far as the wisdom she had. I miss her everyday.
2 I'm doing this because there are many people fighting this everyday. Survivors and thrivers such as @k15ha @kevykev220 @2becarla who have allowed me the honor of being on my podcast to share their story. Im so appreciative and it has given me a better understanding and has allowed me to see that these courageous individuals would not allow cancer to take over their lives.
So come out and celebrate those we have lost, those who are still fighting, and those who have beat this thing we all hate called breast cancer.
October 17th is a night of honor and appreciation as we show them that we are there for them every step of the way.

Last week was our 2nd gala of the season & the reason was @brooklynmuseum Artists Ball. The event was extra special now that a quilt by @bisabutler of #ShirleyChisholm is currently on display at the museum and @artforchange released a print of the piece that sold out shortly after it dropped! Thank you #brooklyn
