If you're following the Backyard Ultra World Champs over the next several days, here are a few things we think you should know about this special little niche of the sport:

It was never meant to be easy. The original course at Big's Backyard boasts ~450ft of gain per daytime loop.
Ours is ~500ft per loop, and doesn't change overnight.
We take pride in the challenge of it, and we have a feeling you will too.
Join us June 5 to ?, 2027 at Maryland's Original Backyard Ultra: More Miles @thelastonestandingchallenge

So proud of this stud. 14 yrs old. First marathon. Trained and worked for it (all on his own dedication and effort). One of the toughest marathon courses. Excited to see where this spark for endurance sports takes him. Giddy up

🎙️ **EPISODE 50 IS HERE! And we’re going backyard ultra deep. 🌲🔥**

How do you go from blistering marathon PRs to becoming a force in the “last runner standing” world? Just ask Dave Kwiatkowski. 👀

In Episode 50 of *Tales on the Towpath*, we’re talking:
🏃‍♂️ From road racing to elite ultrarunning
🔥 The brutal reality of HellGate 100K++
⏱️ Backyard ultras, course records & the quest for the next loop
📊 Building Yardlore.com and tracking the stats behind the sport
🥪 The GREAT Uncrustables debate: Grape 🍇 vs. Strawberry 🍓

Plus, we get into FKTs, cross-country adventures, ultra fueling, and the mindset behind those seemingly unfinished projects.

Whether you’re chasing your next PR or just trying to figure out how someone runs until everyone else quits, this one’s for you!

🎧 **Listen to Episode 50 with Dave Kwiatkowski now!**

👇 Team Grape or Team Strawberry? Settle the debate in the comments! .... or are you way out there & on Team Nutella? 😳
