POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

We wanted to make schema therapy language usable in _real_ life.

Not just in the therapy room — but in that moment when you feel triggered and you're about to fall into an old script.

Lisa Corbett & Tanya Collins created their work for exactly this reason. To help you pause and ask:

*What's happening here? What am I feeling? Am I about to Submit, Opt Out, or Storm In?*

Because once you can NAME the pattern, you have a choice. You don't have to follow the familiar script.

In the UK, mental health services are being cut and private therapy is expensive. Their mission is to make psychological ideas accessible — so people can find relief at low cost.

This is how you start.

Visuals imagined with AI, conversation is real.

SUBMIT, OPT OUT, STORM IN — ever caught yourself doing one of these?

In this clip Tanya breaks it down so simply:

*SUBMIT:* Saying yes when you mean no, acting as if the old belief is true.
*OPT OUT:* Avoiding the text, the call, the room that might trigger it.
*STORM IN:* Taking charge of everything so you never feel out of control.

Short-term relief, long-term stuck. But once you can name the pattern, you have choice.

*If you want to hear more:*

Their podcast is *Unstuck with Tanya and Lisa*. They talk about the patterns that keep us stuck, why they develop, and how ideas from schema therapy can help in everyday life — relationships, friendships, work, burnout, people pleasing, and what happens when something hits an old nerve.

Why do we keep quiet?

Okay, for me my people pleasing is not being able to speak up to avoid conflict. I feel fear so I keep quiet.

But Lisa said something that stopped me: _"Sometimes staying quiet might absolutely be the right choice."_

Wait. Not always speak up?

The real question is: *Am I CHOOSING quiet, or am I DISAPPEARING?*

Choosing = calm, intentional
Disappearing = fear, tight chest

Sometimes the right response is to absolutely speak up, even with fear.

*If you want to hear more —*

Our guests are Lisa Corbett & Tanya Collins, hosts of *Unstuck with Tanya and Lisa*. They talk about the patterns that keep us stuck, why they develop, and how ideas from schema therapy can help us understand them in everyday life — whether that’s in relationships, friendships, work, burnout, people pleasing or just the way we respond when something hits an old nerve.

You can find *Unstuck* on Apple Podcasts and Spotify, and on Instagram at @2together.podcast where they share shorter psychological ideas and clips.

And their message to take away: _These patterns make sense. They usually developed for a reason. But once you can notice them, you’ve got much more choice about whether you want to keep following them._

Which one was it for you today — did you choose, or did you disappear? Let me know in the comments.

I was the queen of "yes" when I meant "no."

Socialising. Presentations. Any room where I thought I had to be liked to be safe.

If you get that, this one's for you.

Old pattern? It's not a flaw. It helped you cope.

My therapist @Tanya Collins says it best:
Be curious. But curious with _compassion_.
Notice the old pattern. Then hit reset.

Pause.
Give yourself some space.
Make one small, manageable change.

You don't have to fix your whole life today. Just pause before the next yes.

Does this pattern sound familiar? What helps you pause? 👇

You know that moment?

You say "yeah sure, no problem!" and then 5 minutes later your stomach is in knots and you're thinking... why did I say yes?

Same. I've been there so many times.

That anxious feeling after isn't you being dramatic. It's just your body going "hey, we actually didn't want to do that."

In today's video we chat about why we do it and how to get a bit better at saying no without the guilt spiral.

Tell me — what did you last say yes to that you _really_ wanted to say no to? Let's make you feel less alone 👇
