As fans of Sarah Ferrer & Samantha Ferrer of 2WIN Studios, we ran over to Baker Hall / Mahara and Co for “Stories We Tell Ourselves,” a three-artist group show co-curated by Mahara Martínez & Laurie Rojas. Sarah and Sam presented a new body of ceramic work continuing their tradition of whimsical, personal creations. Every time we see their work we think it’s their best yet & this showing was no exception. Also included in the show is Mara Fáundez’s large-scale paintings that feel like unedited snippets into the mindset and actions of the protagonist, her subjects caught in moments that read as tortured or intimate depending on where you stand. Out in the gallery garden is the magnificent “Common Nests” by Philip Lique: a tower of uniquely crafted birdhouses strung together into a bird condo, a few of the units listed for rent. On view through the end of August. From there we shot over to the NW 22 Street galleries, & started our adventure at Voloshyn Gallery for Mehdi-Georges Lahlou’s solo exhibition “Always Looking At Palm Trees — A Botanical Conversation.” It’s a multimedia meditation on the origins of the palm tree, moving through sculpture, negative photographic prints, video installation, & fiberwork. The result is a deep dive that will change the way you see the tree for good. On view through the end of August. Next door, Andrew Reed Gallery is running a two-part show. It opens with Friedrich Kunath’s video “About Soufflé,” a fun piece in which the artist jumps into countless locations in cities all over the world, meant to emulate a famed 1920s Buster Keaton film. In the rest of the gallery is Kate Bickmore’s “Holding Time (Part II),” the middle chapter of a three-part exhibition. Her photorealistic paintings of plants & flowers are as mysterious as they are beautiful. On view through August 22. And while you’re in the neighborhood, don’t forget to stop by Mindy Solomon Gallery for Sofia Ballestaros’s curatorial debut. @2win.ssarah @2win.sam @2winstudios @maramaria____ @mahara_and_co @bakerhall.art @philip_lique @voloshyngallery @mehdigeorgeslahlou @andrewreedgallery @friedrichkunath @katebickmore @_sophiaelisa_ @mindysolomongallery
