After graduating from the @mujschool, I am thrilled to share that I have accepted the role of photo intern at @thegazette.ia, a print and digital daily newspaper that serves communities in eastern Iowa, including Cedar Rapids and Iowa City.

I am grateful for this opportunity from Executive Editor Zack Kucharski and Managing Editor Jim Johnson. As a photo intern, I am looking forward to working alongside and learning from The Gazette's incredible visuals staff, reporters and editors. My time as an undergraduate at @mizzou has taught me so much.

Over four years at the @comissourian, I worked in multiple roles, including Assistant Director of Photography, staff photographer, photo editor and publication designer. I would not have been able to fulfill these jobs without the mentorship from the J-School faculty and newsroom editors. Their guidance taught me how to identify stories with strong visual potential and develop the skills needed to produce quality picture stories.

As I prepare for the next chapter, I look forward to refining these skills at The Gazette newsroom. I am grateful for the fellow J-School students who supported me with feedback and advice during my time at the Missourian. They have helped me grow as a photojournalist and as a person.

$⠀Moments from the 50th Anniversary @mtnworkshops which I had the pleasure of attending alongside other talented folks from around the world who believe in the power of human connection through storytelling. ⠀ ⠀For 5 days, teams of dedicated teachers and determined participants worked across three platforms—photojournalism, video storytelling, and picture editing—to create compelling visual and written stories that reflect the unique identity of Maysville, KY. Hats off to the organizers and "labbies" who put in an increadible effort to plan and execute this workshop! Immersed in our stories, we all felt welcome by the local community and enjoyed the natural beauty of this town on the banks of the mighty Ohio River. ⠀ ⠀I had the honor to be part of @ericseals and Jack Brammer's team, who treated us all like family, shared a ton of professional experience, and guided us through challenges along the way! And let me tell you, from the moment we picked our hat-drawn story ideas, there was barely a minute to chill; the learning and work never stopped. That said, I had to take extra care and prioritize my health, as I was dealing with a few fractured and one broken rib after an unfortunate car accident just a week before the workshop. So those almost 16-hour days were quite rough, and I had to take plenty of precautions. ⠀ ⠀Every day, we gathered at the historic Cox Building to be inspired and have our inner batteries recharged by conversations with some of the best storytellers in the country: @jabinbotsford @shutupbiz @jakemayphoto @rickloomis @jessphelps961 @gershphoto. Working with @connor.marchant from editorial team helped deepen understanding of design needs. After each workshop, a 100-plus-page album is published&shared with everyone who allowed us to tag along for a week and document their lives. ⠀ ⠀Watching final presentations was quite emotional, and scoring a small prize from @progradedigital was truly the cherry on top. It has been an honor to meet&work with so many incredible people. Mountain has a special way of sparking motivation for creating, and while I’m returning home exhausted, I’m excited to take this passion and energy back with me!$

At my desk area now I’ll always have fond memories to look at from coaching the participants of Team Seals/Brammer at @mtnworkshops thanks to the Polaroids that @hilitski_victor shot 👍🏽😃

Day 4 has ended — which means photographers are officially halfway through the workshop.

Photographers spent the day in the depths of picture-making on Wednesday as many of them nailed down their story. Some photographers continued stories they found earlier in the week. Some were forced to start anew after their initial stories fell through.

While the photographers were out shooting or consulting with their faculty, the crew and faculty delighted in meeting two furry friends: Monterey Jack the cat and Dood the therapy dog. Monterey Jack, or Monty, is an adoptable foster cat living at Franklin County Family Resource Center and loves a good scratch behind the ear. Dood is a bit camera shy, but did enjoy some good side hugs.

The evening program featured the late Bill Eppridge’s “Criticism Ain’t All Bad…” before diving into another round of story critiques featuring the best images from each photographer so far.
