PLYMOUTH! How I love you. Thank you for selling out my first headline show and thank you for asking me to sign your chip forks and thank you for perfectly illustrating that:
1) The West Country is the best place in the world.
2) The Wild Rover goes so hard every. single. time.
3) The sight of a crowd smiling and laughing and dancing to live music, which we’ve been doing since the dawn of time, is something that AI can never replace.

My debut EP is out now! EVERY CLOUD 4EVA. 🌥️

Chorus for a full moon.
Jessica Akerman and Clare Charles.

Singers, swimmers and bystanders came together a few hours before the moon appeared on 27 August, to experience Chorus for a full moon.

Starting on the shore, we sang together and to the sea. Then, as we continued in voice, half the group moved down the steps into the sea, continuing to sing back to those on land as they became immersed. In the last movement, the swimmers slowly returned to shore, the swell of voices rising together again, resonating around the rocks.

We wanted to explore connection through song and the sea... what happens when you take a song from the land to the water?

When we told those assembled we wanted to perform it somewhere where the sea would be an active participant, we were not expecting it to be so vociferously active. It was very choppy and churny, a noisy presence bringing its full moon energy to the event.

Thank you to everyone who came along, gave their time, and were willing to go on a choppy journey with us. Particular thanks to members of Seaweed in the Fruitlocker choir and Plymouth Climate Choir. And special thanks to Sefryn Penrose and Angela Piccini for selecting our work for Bathing Places and helping us realise it.

The Bathing Places programme runs until 26 September at 37 Looe Street, Plymouth.

Included here are images of the broadside we produced to accompany the performance; an illustrated songsheet, showing the rhythmic push and pull of laying low and rising above, held by a strong pair of hands. It feels fitting that the steel hands have started to turn rusty in the maritime humidity, edging back to the condition the salvaged sheet was in before Jessica formed it into hand brackets.

A forever changing set of material reactions and cycles, back and forth, lay me low, rise above, wash in, wash out.

I’m incredibly honoured to have my series Her Feast featured by @peopleofprint !!!

A heartfelt thank you to Marcroy for his thoughtful and perceptive critical response to the work. It means so much to see the series understood and discussed with such care.

Her Feast was previously exhibited as part of In Between at @37looestreet in Plymouth. Seeing the series come to life in a physical space was a truly magical experience. I’m deeply grateful to Angela @aapiccini for all her support, and to @oliversonline667 for curating the exhibition and bringing everything together! Exhibition photos by @bofan.psd
