⛳ **RA GOLF AUTUMN CHAMPIONSHIPS | RIPON CITY GC** 🏆

A great day of golf at @rcgc1908 , kindly hosted by the club and organised by @4_regt_ra , led by L Snape.

With 32 players from across Regular and Reserve units, the Championships brought together a fantastic mix of abilities — including several players who have only taken up golf this year. The golf was competitive throughout, with some excellent performances across the various competitions.

A huge thank you to 3RHA, 4RA, 5RA, 7 PARA RHA, 26RA, 32RA, 47RA, 103RA, 105RA and 1 DRSX for supporting the event and releasing players to attend. 👏

Prizes were presented by 4RA Regt 2IC / RAGS Vice Chair, J Musgrove, rounding off a brilliant day of competition and camaraderie.

Special thanks also to RA Sport for their continued support in reducing costs and helping make attendance possible for our golfers.

Congratulations to all the winners and runners-up — and well done to everyone who played, particularly those new to the game. 👏🏌️‍♂️

🔙 THROWBACK THURSDAY - EXERCISE STEEL SABRE 2016

Two weeks of intense live firing at Otterburn Training Area brought together Regular and Reserve, Royal Artillery soldiers from across the United Kingdom 💪🏻🇬🇧.

Exercise Steel Sabre saw HQ 1st Artillery Brigade joined by 3rd Regiment Royal Horse Artillery, 4th Regiment Royal Artillery, the #FightingFourth, 5th Regiment Royal Artillery - The Yorkshire Gunners, 7th Parachute Regiment Royal Horse Artillery, 29 Commando Regiment, The Northern Gunners - Army Reserve, 103 Regiment RA and 105 Regiment Royal Artillery.

A fantastic opportunity to train alongside our Regular counterparts and demonstrate the skill, professionalism and firepower of the Royal Artillery.

The RA Golf Championships 2026 concluded after the biggest competition in recent memory, bringing together an outstanding field from across the Regiment. Thanks to funding support from @royal_artillery Sport, personnel from Gunner through to Lieutenant Colonel were able to compete, reflecting the inclusive spirit of the event.

The championship showcased teamwork, resilience, integrity and excellence - values that sit at the heart of both the Royal Regiment of Artillery and the British Army. Our thanks go once again to @thonock_park for their exceptional hospitality, and to @pinggolfeurope for their generous support and prize donations, which helped make the event such a success.

Maybe too hot?

Due to the heat, the crew has discovered that the track is indeed open at 0600. These early mornings allow training to take place before the heat causes a "Stop, Stop, Stop".

2 days left at Woolwich before heading down to HMS COLLINGWOOD. Last bits of practice before showing the other 16 crews what the Gunners can do!

#Todayin 2010 Lance Bombardier Mark Chandler from 3rd Regiment Royal Horse Artiller ywas attached to 4th Regiment Royal Artillery, serving as part of Combined Force Nad ‘Ali, and was killed in a small arms fire engagement with insurgent forces in the Nad ‘Ali district of Helmand province.

Lance Bombardier Mark Chandler was aged 32 and from Nailsworth, Gloucestershire. He joined the Army on 5 January 2004, aged 26, and was posted to M (HQ) Battery, 3rd Regiment Royal Horse Artillery, based in Hohne, Germany.

Lance Bombardier Chandler deployed to Basra, Iraq, on Op TELIC 7 as part of the Commanding Officer’s Rover Group. Professional and conscientious, he was given the trusted position of Commanding Officer’s driver upon his return to Germany, which he held for two years.

His determination, fitness and motivation shone through and he was posted to D Battery as a Fire Support Team assistant, deploying to Canada in June 2009 before commencing pre-deployment training for Op HERRICK 12.

He deployed to Afghanistan in March 2010, supporting Anzio Company, 1st Battalion The Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment, in Nad ‘Ali. Anzio Company has been operating from Patrol Base Khaamar, conducting security and reassurance patrols for the local nationals with both the Afghan National Police and Afghan National Army.

Twice Army luge champion and accomplished skier, he threw himself into regimental and battery life and was always in the centre of the action, be it sport, social or fun. He drew people to him with his sense of adventure and he leaves behind his parents, Mike and Ann, brother Steve, and an extensive group of friends who will all feel his loss keenly.

Lance Bombardier Chandler’s family said:

Mark - a son and brother any parent would be proud of. A consummate soldier, a skier, a luger, an athlete and a lover of life. He will be sorely missed by his loving family and friends.

Thoughts go out to all his close family and friends on this day of days, may he rest in peace and may he never be forgotten 🇬🇧.

British Archer and French CAESAR end Ex SPRING STORM with a bang on a live fire exercise in south Estonia.

Emerging from their hide locations in the dense forests, French and British spotters called in their fire missions to bring 155mm artillery shells onto target. Another example of UK and French troops operating together and adapting to the Estonian forests.
