The United States and Iran have agreed to a temporary two-week ceasefire after a period of escalating military tension. The deal, reportedly supported by Pakistan, is aimed at stopping immediate hostilities and preventing a wider regional war. As part of the agreement, Iran is expected to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial global oil transit point.

Under the terms of the ceasefire, both sides will pause military actions, creating a window for diplomatic talks. The reopening of the Strait is especially significant because it directly impacts global oil supply and prices, which had been unstable during the conflict. Financial markets reacted positively to the news, reflecting global relief at the reduced risk of disruption in energy supplies and further escalation.

However, this agreement is only a short-term measure and not a permanent peace deal. Key issues—such as Iran’s nuclear program and ongoing economic sanctions—remain unresolved, and there are still reports of lingering tensions. The next two weeks will be critical in determining whether both sides can turn this temporary pause into a lasting agreement or if conflict could resume.

Report Claims Landlords in Ashaiman Demand Sex Instead of Rent

A new report by the ADR initiative has raised concerns about alleged “sex-for-rent” practices in Ashaiman. The report claims that some landlords in the area are demanding sexual favors from female tenants in exchange for accommodation or as a substitute for rent payments.

According to the report, several women said they were pressured by landlords or caretakers when they were unable to pay rent or when they were searching for a place to stay. In some cases, the women claimed they were told they could only secure or keep their rooms if they agreed to sexual relationships.

The findings have sparked public discussion about housing exploitation and the safety of tenants, especially young women and students who move to urban areas in search of work or education. Advocates say the situation highlights the vulnerability many renters face when there are limited affordable housing options.

Community leaders and housing advocates are calling for stronger enforcement of tenant protection laws and more support systems for victims. They also urge tenants to report such incidents to authorities and seek help from organizations that provide legal or social assistance.

Authorities have not yet confirmed specific cases but say allegations of exploitation in housing arrangements are taken seriously and could lead to legal action if proven. Experts emphasize that demanding sexual favors in exchange for housing can amount to harassment, coercion, or abuse under the law.

The report has renewed calls for government agencies and civil society groups to work together to protect tenants and ensure safer housing conditions in communities like Ashaiman.

Controversial Remarks by Activist Avram Ben Moshe Spark Debate on Religious Tolerance in Ghana

Accra, Ghana — Public reactions are growing following controversial comments attributed to Ghanaian activist Avram Ben Moshe, who warned that if Muslims become the majority in Ghana, they would allegedly become intolerant toward other religious groups.

In a statement circulating widely on social media, Ben Moshe claimed that once Muslims gain political power, they cannot easily be stopped. The remarks quickly triggered strong reactions from both supporters and critics, raising fresh concerns about religious harmony in the country.

Ghana is widely known for its relatively peaceful coexistence among religious communities. According to national statistics and independent surveys, the population is predominantly Christian, with a significant Muslim minority and smaller groups practicing traditional African religions and other faiths. For decades, these communities have generally lived side by side with minimal religious conflict compared with many other regions.

Religious leaders and civil society organizations have urged the public to avoid rhetoric that could fuel division. Several interfaith groups stressed that Ghana’s stability has long depended on mutual respect among different religious traditions.

Some commentators argue that statements like Ben Moshe’s risk deepening suspicion between communities. Others, however, defend his remarks as a warning about political power and religious influence, saying the issue deserves open discussion.

Leaders from Muslim organizations in Ghana have also responded, emphasizing that Islam in the country has historically promoted peace, coexistence, and national unity. They cautioned against generalizations about any faith group and called for dialogue rather than confrontation.

Shatta Wale Hints at 2028 Independent Run for Ablekuma South Seat

Ghanaian dancehall star Shatta Wale has sparked political conversation after hinting that he could contest the parliamentary seat for Ablekuma South Constituency in the 2028 general elections.

Possible Independent Bid

In recent remarks circulating online, the musician suggested that he might enter politics as an independent candidate, depending on the level of support he receives from people in the constituency. According to the statement, Shatta Wale indicated that if residents call on him to represent them, he would seriously consider stepping forward to contest the seat.

The “SM boss” also hinted that his decision would be driven by the desire to bring change and represent ordinary people, rather than aligning himself with Ghana’s dominant political parties.

Frustration With Traditional Politics

Shatta Wale has previously expressed frustration with Ghana’s two main political parties — the NDC and NPP — suggesting that the country needs fresh leadership and new ideas from the younger generation. Some of his recent comments have even floated the idea of forming a new political movement or party in the future.
