grateful, appreciative and humbled. 20 years of jiujitsu, and i feel like the journey has just begun. when i was younger, it was always a dream to be a relson gracie black belt. but at that time, i thought a black belt was someone who knew all the moves, won a lot of tournaments, and could tap everyone. little did i know how my perception would change as my journey went on. now, my opinion is that not only does a black belt need to be proficient at jiujitsu itself, but they need to be a decent person in how they act and carry themselves. if this moment had happened 5+ years prior, i wouldn't deserve it. i was not only broken and lost, i was a shitty person with a bad attitude. i am forever thankful for shane agena, kayle, hnl jiujitsu and my training partners. i started jiujitsu with shane in 2006 and he got me to my purple belt. i lost my way and got myself in trouble for a bit and then found hnl jiujitsu. they welcomed me the first day i stepped in that door and they never once judged me because of my past. those who know me, know that i've had some dark times and a rough history. all i needed was an opportunity and a chance, and they gave me that. since that day, the academy and jiujitsu has played a major role with rebuilding and finding myself again.
it has helped me to become a better person, a better friend and a better father. here i am today, far from perfect but also far from the person i used to be 🖤. @hnl_jiu_jitsu_academy @relsongracieoriginal #TeamKona #HoneyBadger
