POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

In September, we gathered to celebrate the next generation of Detroit’s creative voices.

The Young Creatives Exhibition brought together emerging artists and community through a shared commitment to creative expression, cultural exchange, and the future of Detroit’s arts landscape.

Presented in partnership with the @diadetroit’ Inside|Out, @bulk_space, and the @bgcgreaterdetroit, the exhibition created a space to recognize young talent and the perspectives shaping what comes next.

Curated by @9hopes, Young Creatives reflected the importance of investing in emerging artists and creating opportunities for their work to be seen, experienced, and celebrated.

A look back at an evening dedicated to the future of Detroit’s creative community.

Jes, since ninth grade, you’ve been one of the constants in my life. We went to college together, helped each other through our graduate programs, and have been there for each other through everything life has brought our way.

We’ve seen about 45 different versions of each other—the growing, the grieving, the figuring-it-out, and the starting-over versions. Never once have we met those changes with judgment or questioned our friendship. We’ve given each other room to grow while always making sure the other knew she was loved.

There’s something so precious about a friend who knows who you were, loves who you are, and welcomes whoever you’re becoming. Thank you for being that person for me. I love you deeply, and I’m so grateful we get to keep growing up together. 🤍

Happy Birthday to my moon! I love orbiting with you honey. @9hopes

A highlight of some of our community at work, lately. 💫 from witnessing the extraordinary work of our fiscally sponsored project @undocufc at @blackstarfest, to hosting over a dozen artists and media practitioners from across the midwest for the @mdw.coalition annual summit held in detroit this year, to sharing and learning from the @laundromat_proj visit to our home base in the LOVE building, our minds, hearts, and spirits are full.

We’re thrilled to forge deepened relationships and community across media-based organizing in detroit and beyond. so much more to share soon! 🌀🌱

Studio Art and Craft is excited to host our first TALK series of the year with Jes Allie who is an independent curator and Co-Director of BULK Space based in Detroit, Michigan. Since the outset of her career, she has worked both locally and nationally to ensure that marginalized creatives have access to meaningful resources and viable opportunities within the arts. With over a decade of experience in art and culture, she has collaborated with numerous national and international arts organizations and institutions, including the University of Michigan Museum of Art (UMMA), Red Bull Arts, Contemporary&, Monument Lab, the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit (MOCAD), SPACES, Independent Curators International, Lincoln Center, and ApexArt.

In 2024, she earned an MFA in Curatorial Practice. Grounded in this expanded critical framework, her curatorial approach seeks to amplify voices that challenge the status quo by engaging the zeitgeist and centering contemporary artists working at the margins. Central to her practice is the creation of opportunities for meaningful community engagement, ensuring that the relationship between art and programming extends beyond institutional spaces and into the lived experiences of the communities they serve.

A significant focus of her work is cultural place-keeping through site-specific and place-based artistic practices. She understands art to be most impactful when it is in dialogue with its environment. When art responds to its surroundings, it moves beyond objecthood to become an experience—something that carries story, memory, and presence. Her practice is guided by an ongoing inquiry: what does it mean to truly experience art, rather than merely witness it?

Feria Clandestina, Miami’s contemporary-art grassroots fair, is dedicated to creating a lasting and inspiring impact during and beyond the fair by initiating and sustaining essential conversations within the cultural space.

With this at heart, the fair is deeply grateful for the valuable input and support of its 2025 Committee Members.
