032c Gallery is pleased to present “doomscrolling,” a group exhibition with works by
Angélique Aubrit & Ludovic Beillard,
Pietro D’Azzo,
Cameron Patricia Downey,
Jason Gringler,
Iida Jonsson & Ssi Saarinen, and
Kev Koko,
on view until April 29.

Doomscrolling is the act of continuously scrolling through large quantities of news and social media content, particularly with a negative narrative. The exhibition is not only interested in endless gloomy scrolling, but the general state of a compulsive consumption of images, no longer being able to distinguish between a “good” and “bad” image. “Doomscrolling” explores in what ways the meaning of an image is no longer defined through its actual content, but through the context it is embedded in.

032c Gallery, Kurfürstendamm 178, Berlin
Open from Tue - Sat, 12:00 - 18:00

SILT at the Videocapsule
12.14 18:00
2023, 30’43

This Saturday at 18:00 “Meduza” will host an event to accompany the exhibition “Rasa”: a guided tour with the author Ona Julija Lukas Steponaityte, a screening of the film “Silt” and a discussion with the film’s directors Ssi Saarinen, Ona Julija Lukas Steponaityte and Iida Jonsson. The screening will take place in the “Medūza” videocapsule.

In 2012, a lake appeared suddenly outside of Likančiai, Lithuania. The body of water is fallout from a Soviet-era drainage project that sought to make land more suitable for agriculture. With the disrepair of the artificial system, water has started to accumulate and begun to emerge unexpectedly, creating accidental landscapes.

Trys filmai reflektuoja kokius pėdsakus kolonializmas palieka kultūriniuose, architektūriniuose ir ekologiniuose kraštovaizdžiuose dar ilgai po naikinančios intervencijos.

“We tend to work with stories and images that are accessible to us, so naturally this leads to working with images and ideas that we are surrounded by. ‘Silt’ is the most literal example of that, the film is about the sudden formation of a body of water in my family land, where I grew up. The land has been with my family for generations and naturally because of that, there is a story to tell about the soviet occupation in Lithuania and its impact on the nation and the landscape.”

@maid3n_ in conversation with @iidajonsson_ @__.ssi__ and @julijasteponaityte on the occasion of the music video premiere from ‘Silt’ a 35 minute documentary film exploring the post-soviet landscape following the formation of rapidly occurring lakes in Lithuania, one of which, rests on Lukas’ family land in Likanciai. The newfound body of water is a by-product of a failed multi-decade soviet drainage project, aimed at making wetlands more suitable for agriculture. The documentary demonstrates the group’s interests in the rendering of landscapes and is a response to the embedded narratives within it that influence our understanding of ecological emergencies, and the relationship between the landscape and systems of maintenance.

In the new issue, Nathanaëlle Herbelin's paintings are as complex as human beings. Tracey Emin bears her burdens for us all. Patti Smith and Stephan Crasneanscki make an homage to Pasolini. And, from behind closed doors, Tobias Meyer coins the "Gay Man's Castle."

Jackie Wullschläger then delivers an exceptional excerpt from her new Monet biography. Robert Gober reveals new work and an old conundrum. The shadowy strength of Delfine Bafort is captured by Larissa Hofmann and Marie Chaix. Donatien Grau, presenting his collection of Roman coins, turns myth to reality. The skulls and bones of the Sedlec Ossuary are photographed by François Halard. Romeo Castellucci consumes his audience. Chardin paints not the thing seen, but seeing the thing. And Andy Hall meets Peter Marino
