This portrait surprised me.
I created it during a workshop with Alisa Semenova @_____als in Munich.

We worked with Vitus @vitusjaap over three 3-hour sessions.
After the first one, I was so dissatisfied with my drawing that I threw it away.
The proportions were off, and I couldn’t fix them — the drawing just became messy and I didn’t want to continue.

In the next session, I started again on a fresh sheet.
More gently, with more attention.
Using cross-hatching, the portrait slowly began to emerge piece by piece.

Thanks to Alisa’s patient guidance and encouragement, the result turned out well ✨

Now it hangs framed in my studio as a reminder that every day counts.
And that every day I can move a little forward in portrait painting.

As Haydar @artinprog , the workshop organizer, said — these gatherings always give you an incredible push.
It’s true! 😃
