Went to the third installment of the first season of Pitch at Super Omen, the dance and performance art venue that Chthonic Games competitors Jemila and Campbell opened a couple of months ago.

The series pairs each installment with a different guest curator. This one was curated by Isabella Thorpe-Woods and Nora Raine Thompson. According to Jemila and Campbell, every night has been completely different.

A very good omen for the evening: literally right after I took my first video and before I even stepped inside, l ran into my longtime friend Mike Sheffield, who was there because he’d already become a fan of the space too.

One of the performances, Creature by Tamas Marquardt, explored identity, lineage, and history through a blend of lecture, dance, and storytelling. It connected Marquardt‘s transmasculinity with Hungarian heritage, weaving in the story of Count Sandor Vay.

The other performance, DAD and COP by Iris McCloughan, examined authority, power, and desire through a sharp, concept-driven approach. It played with control and submission, inviting the audience to reflect on how these dynamics shape both personal and societal relationships.

I’ve been digging in my archives 👻
here’s a gouache painting I did recently of Alan Watts performing at Shea Stadium w/ mural backdrop by Taylor Sakarett and I from October 26, 2012

Alan Watts is a darkwave trio featuring Mike Sheffield, Pat Stankard, and Jeremy Krinsley. They invited Taylor and I to collaborate on stage design for this rager right around Halloween.

Previously a cult figure of Japanese personal fiction, Kōda Aya received a posthumous bump of recognition when her book, “Tree,” was featured prominently in Wim Wenders’s film, “Perfect Days.” This May, Penguin Classics is releasing the first-ever English language edition of “Tree.”

Written as a travelogue and botanical study, in the novel Kōda visits the trees of Japan under the pretext of journalism and travel writing but, in the process, ends up revealing much more about her life, loss, and the aftermath of war through her encounters.

In a recent review of the book, Tricycle’s web editor Mike Sheffield writes, “As she ventures to visit these trees and sacred forests, you get the sense that Kōda is coming to grips with a landslide of loss and making sense of what happens when the earth breaks and everything falls away.”

John Thayer @sonic_monkeywrencher and Clairaudience @clairaudience perform at @sctrpc @_stretchmetal #dronerodeo 2026

Distorted tones and warped harmonies filled the space, folding time into sound. Listeners leaned, shifted, laid and languished, closing their eyes in the slowed passage of time, between the small epiphanies of the ear.
