Paola Ferrarotti uses photography not so much to depict the world as to explore the way we perceive it. Although her work encompasses a wide range of subjects —from landscapes and urban scenes to portraits, reflections and still obiects-it is united by a consistent visual approach.

At the heart of her work lie light, space, and the subtle
relationships between visible reality and subjective perception. Her photographs often inhabit the spaces in-between: between interior and exterior, presence and absence, reality and reflection. Windows, glass surfaces, water, and other reflective elements recur as motifs that transform the view and connect different layers of reality.

Ferrarotti is less interested in events than in those quiet moments when something changes —or begins to change. Her images often emerge at points of transition: where light meets shadow, where forms dissolve, or where landscapes and urban spaces develop a distinct atmospheric tension.

Rather than telling stories, her photographs create spaces of experience that invite attentive contemplation. A characteristic feature of her work is a movement from the figurative toward the abstract.
People, places, and objects remain recognizable yet increasingly transform into lines, structures, rhythms, and visual resonances.

The result is images that do not merely document, but rather make sensations and processes of perception visible.

Her photographic practice can be understood as an exploration of those moments when the visible loses its definitiveness and transforms into atmosphere, resonance, and experience. In doing so, her gaze focuses on the poetic aspects of the everyday and on those often-overlooked connections formed between space, light, and human presence.

Paola Ferrarotti’s works invite us not merely to look at the world, but to perceive it as a web of relationships, transitions, and subtle energies. Her photographs reveal less the objects themselves than the traces they leave behind in space.

Paola Ferrarotti photographs from a state of movement - not just across cities, but across inner terrains. Born in Argentina and now based in Germany, her images carry the weight of transition.

Her work is not driven by messages or conclusions. It begins when something feels slightly displaced - a reflection, a pause, a relationship between a person and their surroundings that doesn’t fully resolve. That tension is where her photographs live.

Rather than constructing narratives, Paola allows fragments to accumulate. Each image stands on its own, yet together they form an atmosphere - one shaped by observation, attention, and a sense of inquiry. Her photographs feel less like statements and more like records of being: how a body occupies space, how space presses back.

What stays with us is her restraint. The refusal to explain. The patience to let meaning surface on its own terms.

For our first feature of 2026 we welcome back Paola Ferrarotti with White Silence, a photographic series shaped by strong light, hard contrasts, and sculptural forms.

Shot in a landscape defined by erosion and exposure, the Egyptian White Desert, these photographs are direct and unsentimental. Rock formations, sand, sky, and man-made traces appear isolated, almost monumental. The whiteness is not soft or atmospheric — it is abrasive, reflective, and unforgiving, pushing texture and structure to the foreground.
A landscape series of stark, physical encounters.
