POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
On an afternoon in June, a year ago, Eimi came over to give me a sake set she had made. We sat in my garden drinking tea and talking about ceramics, and discovered that we shared a feeling about the importance of having meaningful, intimate and personal relationships with the objects we use. How we care for objects and let them care for us in return, and how we think and learn through touch. That was when the idea for this collection started.

We wanted to make ceramics inspired by natural forms that still felt playful. The pieces are made from porcelain, it’s delicacy and lightness allow us to see the colours of the tea. Their shapes take inspiration from Japanese shiboridashi teapots. We wanted to work with soft, natural colours, choosing a celadon glaze with a glossy finish, and a matte, speckled pink that looks like a blush or a trace of lipstick on a cup. The pink emerged through Eimi’s experimentation with layering two glazes. A reminder that the materials are active, they have agency—the unpredictability of firing is part of the beauty.

The handles began with Eimi’s interest in bones, anatomy and organic debris. Recalling small joints, they offer places to nestle your fingers as you pour. We also wanted to leave deliberate fingerprint marks in the glaze: traces of the body that made the object, an acknowledgement of sculpture as a bodily imprint. Tea is an experience of touch as much as taste, of warmth and contact.

The teacups come in several forms, all small and designed for tasting tea through multiple infusions. In gongfu-style brewing, the leaves are steeped repeatedly, often for short periods, allowing the flavour and aroma to change from one brew to the next. The different cup shapes invite you to mix and match, making each set a little different.

Alongside the teaware, we have made a limited collection of teapets: little creatures to sit with us while we drink, receiving the first brew as a small blessing. We wanted to make things that inspire a desire to care for them...made to be loved.
