On World Intellectual Property Day 2026, we begin a global reflection on how sports truly works beyond what we see on the field.

Sports is not only performance.
It is a structured global industry powered by Intellectual Property.

Behind every match, highlight, jersey, broadcast, and viral moment lies a deeper system that creates and distributes value—through media rights, branding, identity, content, and ownership.

In today’s sports economy, athletes remain central—but they are part of a much larger ecosystem where value is also shaped off the field.

Intellectual Property is the invisible infrastructure holding this system together.

It defines what is owned, what is shared, and how value moves across the sports world.

This is not just about awareness.
It is about understanding the system that already exists.

At the Mashariki African Film Festival, we continued sharing what we know about immersive storytelling with fellow creatives.

On Day 2, we moved deeper into the technical side of immersive media, taking a step-by-step approach to how 360° video and simulations are actually created.

Together, we broke down the process from understanding the tools, to capturing 360° footage, to structuring immersive scenes in ways that feel intentional and meaningful. We explored both theory and practice, looking at how immersive experiences are designed, not just filmed.

Through live demonstrations, practical exercises, and shared hacks from real-world projects, participants got to see how immersive workflows come together, and how small technical decisions can greatly impact the final experience.

It was a hands-on day full of questions, experimentation, and moments where things started to click. Creatives tested ideas, learned new techniques, and gained confidence in working with tools that once felt complex or out of reach.

Most importantly, Day 2 showed that immersive storytelling is not about perfection, but about understanding the process and giving yourself permission to experiment.

Day by day, skill by skill, we are reminded that when knowledge is shared openly, the creative community grows stronger — together.

At the Mashariki African Film Festival, we got an opportunity to share what we know about immersive storytelling with fellow creatives.

On day 1, we reflected on why storytelling matters, and why it is important for us, as Africans, to keep telling our own stories in ways that honour our cultures, experiences, and communities.

We introduced emerging XR mediums not as the future that belongs to a few, but as tools that all creatives can explore to remain connected, relevant, and empowered in a fast-changing world.

We also spent time on the basics of 360°/VR photography, learning how to handle the cameras, experiment with shooting, and edit for platforms that bring audiences into our stories. It was a hands-on session, with everyone discovering something new together.

Most importantly, we explored the opportunities within immersive media that can support artists’ growth and long-term sustainability.

Day by day, conversation by conversation, we are reminded that when creatives share knowledge, the entire community moves forward.
