33. 🦋

…And you all really did surprise me. 😭 I expected a very low-key birthday, but love showed up for me in so many ways today. It reminded me why I am so grateful to be in community with every single one of you.

So instead of simply thanking you, I want to pray for you.

God, thank You for every person who took time out of their day and their busy schedule to call, text, email, send a message, leave a voice note, send a delivery, FaceTime me, GroupMe message me, Facebook message me, sing through the voice note configuration, check on me, or celebrate your “MIGHTY WORK” through Rev. Donel & Soror Julia Heflin in any way. Thank You for the love they reflected through their actions.

They did not owe me anything, but they made room for me anyway. They paused their own responsibilities, plans, and routines to make sure I felt remembered, valued, and loved. Lord, please bless them for every moment they gave, every thoughtful gesture they made, and every way they showed up for me.

Cover them, strengthen them, encourage them, and meet them in the places where they need love and support. Give back to them abundantly for the kindness, care, and joy they poured into me. Remind them that their love mattered and that I do not take any of it for granted.

From start to finish, You made this such a beautiful day. What a lovely way to welcome 33. 🥹

In Jesus’ name, amen.

And now, to all of you: God bless you, and thank you SO much. I am going to do my very, very best to respond to every post and message, but if I don’t get to yours, please accept this as my heartfelt thank you and know that I am praying for you with so much gratitude.

I truly feel loved and covered by an incredible community. Thank you for making 33 one I will never forget. 💙🦋

May you walk through this life knowing hard things don’t get the final word. And may you always be surrounded by women who clap the loudest when it’s your turn. 💙

Five years ago, my mom set a goal: take control of her health and cross the finish line of the Atlanta Peachtree Road Race. Today, she did just that. We pushed through 6.2 miles in RECORD HEAT in our annual matching FITS!!! 🔥🔥🔥

What makes this tradition even more meaningful is that every year, we serve first by volunteering, then we lace up our shoes and participate together. It’s become more than a race, it’s our annual reminder that health is built one step at a time.

Last year, we finished in 2 hours. This year, we crossed the finish line in 1:24:22. Stronger. Faster. Healthier.

Every mile, every volunteer shift, and every finish line is another stride toward better heart health. I’m so proud of my mom for keeping the promise she made to herself, and grateful that we get to make these heart-healthy memories together.

Here’s to progress over perfection and many more years of making heart health strides together. ❤️🏃🏾‍♀️ #NorthsideHospital #PeachthreeRoadRace #HeartHealthAwareness #RunThat

I’ve had the honor of witnessing a remarkable example of scholarship, resilience, determination, and public service through my baby brother, Donel Heflin Jr. He managed to work full-time in the military, participate in extracurricular activities, join college organizations, build relationships that will last him a lifetime, and show up professionally for multiple deployments all while navigating the many vicissitudes of life.

What stands out to me most is his unwavering commitment to excellence and his determination to succeed on his own terms. He advocated for himself, created time to study, made time for music, and somehow found balance in the middle of it all.

This weekend, his name will be called as a Magna Cum Laude graduate with a 3.8 GPA, earning his bachelor’s degree, and every bit of it was earned through discipline, sacrifice, and perseverance.

Congratulations, Buggy Bug, THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE!!! May God continue to bless and guide you. I know Paw would be so proud of you!

I made it! 🎓⚖️ I am officially a Liberty University graduate with my degree in Criminal Justice!
.
While my name is on the diploma, this achievement belongs to the incredible village that got me here. To my amazing Mom, my wonderful sisters, and my ride-or-die friends.

Special thanks to Doc @letichapriscilla for the endless love, the late-night pep talks, and the unwavering support throughout this entire journey.
.
I could not have crossed this finish line without you all. Balancing military life and college wasn’t easy, and I am the luckiest person in the world to have you in my corner. Go Flames! 🦅🔥
.
I am ready to put this degree to use, get back to work, and continue serving! 🪖🇺🇸🫡

There’s been a glitch in the algorithm of “business as usual” across Georgia. While the world is screaming for attention behind a screen, these venerable monks are cutting through the noise at 3 mph. In the freezing cold. On foot. #walkforpeace #walkforpeacedecatur

I had the honor of coordinating the 2025 Heflin-Madison Family Reunion in Stone Mountain, GA. It’s a place carved into history, burdened by symbolism, but transformed by presence. Gathering as a family wasn’t just celebration. It was resistance, restoration, and a reclaiming of space. As Isabel Wilkerson reminds us, we are not just living history, we are carrying it. And in our gathering, in our joy, in our creativity and care, we made visible the dignity and strength that’s been passed down through generations. Our events reflected who we are: vibrant, rooted, expressive. We created space for laughter, storytelling, and creativity…each act a thread in the quilt of our legacy.I’m especially grateful to my mom, my sister, and my aunts who co-coordinated with me; to the chefs and caterers who lightened our load; and to the aunties who showed up early, stayed late, and made sure nothing was left undone. What we built in Stone Mountain is part of a larger story, a sacred one. And I’m proud to have played a role in it. Here’s to Stone Mountain 2025, to Ocala 2026, and to every name, face, and memory that keeps our family rising. 💚🧡 #HeflinMadisonFamily #HMFR2025 #LegacyInMotion #StoneMountain2025 #Ocala2026 #ReclaimingPlace #ItTakesAVillage #WeAreTheStory

This ain’t Texas…🍑
Had the honor of experiencing Cowboy Carter Act II alongside my baby sister for an evening that spoke to more than music. Beyoncé continues to challenge narrow definitions of identity and genre, navigating critique not by conforming, but by crafting a lane entirely her own. “They don’t have to get it, as long as you know who you are.” Art becomes both resistance and resilience, a reflection of self-determination. May we all find the courage to move with that same conviction: to do it anyway, and to do it well.
