Magec / The Desert

Sabato 10 e domenica 11 ottobre, ore 20.30
Teatro Elfo Puccini – Sala Shakespeare

Radouan Mriziga’s @_a7la5_ choreography is a space to unmask histories of the official archive. Here are clips from an interview #MadeForTV that I did with Mriziga almost a year ago (Nov. 2025). He speaks about the desert as a place of knowledge where tradition, memory, the body, fauna, landscapes, spirituality and the cosmos meet.

Here, from @sharjahart he reflects on his piece Magec/The Desert, the second of his trilogy exploring mountains, desert, and the sea as sites of knowledge and resistance. Drawing on Amazigh mythology, the prehistoric Tassili cave paintings in the Algerian desert, and the writings of Ibrahim al-Koni, he discusses how landscape, memory and embodied knowledge shape his work.

The piece sits within a wider body of work that approaches the desert as a living, breathing space, dismantling the “empty desert” trope. (Janane AlAni’s Shadow Sites; Monira AlQadiri’s The Guardian; Ayman Zedani’s The Valley of the Desert Plants...)

The full piece can be seen on BBC عربي online.

Eurydice watched the performance of Magec / the Desert and several visitors afterwards shared that same overwhelming emotion. 🩷

Ever wish you could live in total silence and disappear into the desert? 🏜️ So does @kenzapoulain, sometimes.

She turned to Radouan Mriziga for some advice, and talked about his piece Magec / The Desert, playing 5 & 6 September at @kvsbrussels, as part of @hettheaterfestival.

Curious?
