And for me, The Bloom Room was empowering. I am deeply honoured whenever I have the opportunity to share my knowledge with women writing, but especially with early-career writers. The Abebi AfroNonfiction Institute exists to empower and educate young women writing creatively, and that is EXACTLY what The Bloom Room did!

We are so grateful to every single writer who came and braved the rain to create this special experience with us. It’s one thing to hope and dream for something, it’s another thing entirely to watch it play out right before your eyes. Forever grateful.
We can’t wait to host even more events and do even more of this amazing work!

As each year passes, my desire for community grows stronger. What are we if not reflections of the people we love? ❤️

I planned an intimate gathering of writers - Writers’ Picnic 3.0. I wanted and got a space where we were free to be our truest selves - we shared poetry and prose, ate to our hearts’ content, and connected like old friends.

Can’t wait to do this again. I needed this!

Moyo and I met on the day that I saved her and a group of strangers from a pack of hungry wild animals.

Today I read a piece she wrote. For everyone who’s closed up or turned their hearts to stone because of what the world is or has done to them.

Hardness is easier to learn but softness is Herculean. Your softness is sacred as are the most sacred things, soft. Don’t forget that. And you’re not alone.
