MOTHERHOOD IS LONELY 🤰🏻

These photos struck a strong symbolism for me while I was taking them.

My friend and her son. Surrounded by vacant chairs and tables. In their little world, filled with so much love and joy. In this moment I saw the beauty of the love we have for our babies, but also the vacant tables and chairs reminded me of how lonely motherhood can be. Especially the beginning.

- Those long nights of constant wake ups

- Attempting to breastfeed and not knowing why it’s not working

- Making sure they aren’t too hot or too cold

- Making sure they are still breathing

- Rocking them back to sleep and feeling like the only two people in the world who are awake

Amidst the tiredness, we have conflicting feelings of dread that we won’t be having a good night sleep once again but also not minding as this is your baby and you would choose these sleepless nights over and over again.

I see you.

You are doing important work.

I'm giving you a GIANT virtual hug ❤️

I was trying to understand why I enjoyed photographing Amy and her family so much and I was just putting it down to the fact that she’s one of my good friends, but then I dug a little deeper and started to realise that with them, I will spend the day with them, follow them around their home while they get ready, doing every day things, spending quality time with them just chatting about life. It’s slow, intimate and just real. Nothing staged, they are doing things that they would do on a daily basis and I was just there to capture it in my own way.

I think I want to focus on doing more of these kinds of shoots. I want to get to know the people infront of my lens, I want to know your story and I want to tell your story in the photos that I deliver to you. This is more than just a quick, 45 min- 1 hour shoot restriction and wham bam lets get out of here!! It’s deeper than that and having photos done that feel like you is what most people wish for right?

If you would be keen for me to just follow you around for a day and capture you in your life then let me know in the comments! Cause I’m SUPER keen to do more of this this year ☀️
