IT’S RELEASE WEEK!

This Saturday, October 24, my new album Stream of Hope will finally be available on Bandcamp!

As release day approaches, I want to take a moment to thank all the wonderful people who made this project possible.

First and foremost, Paul Shrofel — thank you for co-producing this album with me, for your beautiful playing, creativity, and dedication!

A huge thank you to Rich Irwin, Steve Raegele, Jacob Wutzke, Sandy Eldred, and Mike de Masi for their incredible musicianship and for bringing this music to life.

I’m equally grateful to everyone who contributed behind the scenes:

🎙️ Maxime Philippe — Recording
🎚️ John Anthony — Mixing
🎧 Collin Jordan — Mastering
📷 Pierre Laroche — Cover photography
🎨 Carmen Marcucci & Vlad Shevchenko — Graphic design
✍️ Mark Bednarczyk — Text editing
📣 Andy Hannah @brightdeadthings_
📣 Anastasia Struk — @struk.events
📣 Mariana Bondarenko — @ukrainian_institute

Thank you all for helping spread the word about this project around the world!

Special thanks to the Shevchenko Foundation for its generous support of this project and to LabelWhoAble for releasing the album.

And, of course, my deepest gratitude to my family for their endless love, patience, and support.

🇺🇦 Finally, I’m deeply grateful to the people across the sea who continue to show the world what true human values mean: dignity, freedom, and love.

And thank you to everyone who has already pre-ordered the album and supported my music! It truly means a lot.

🌀🕯️
Joseph, It’s Me and Be Longing are out today. Listen how and wherever you do.

Never felt more connected to my voice than I do on these recordings, or more aware of how powerful that is.

Thank you @andrewlappin for recognizing the “cosmic but earthbound” nature of these songs, as you put it in an early email, and then helping cultivate that feeling so beautifully.

Thank you @kylemorganmusic for playing these songs live with me for over a year, helping me find my footing in them, and—as always—helping translate my heart into music.

Thank you @radtunezofficial for believing in my voice even before it felt like mine, and for building the wondrous @welterweight_sound

Thank you @alexdgoldberg for the signature magic you brought to these tracks.

Thank you @team_love_records for buying a Joey record when we first met at O+ in 2015, and for the many records you’ve helped bring into the world since.

Thank you @_andy_hannah for your loving help shaping this release.

Thank you @heartshapedbx for so much unseen tending, and the killer album art - for Joey, for Joseph, for always.

Thank you all, for everything.

❤️tj

Thanks to Andy Hannah and Nan Spowart for this article. I did the interview really quickly in transit and makes me giggle when I read it back and realise that many chosen life changing events are failures - failed piano lessons, failed career as pop star, a saxophone that gets blown up by Parisian police, turning up for job interview on wrong day and Thatcher destroying the country … talk about snatching victory from the jaws of defeat…. ⚽️

Introducing the @glasgow_improvisers_orchestra GIOfest performers:

From Japan - Yasuko Kaneko

Yasuko is a Japanese trombonist, performing in small groups, and big-bands playing various genres, as well as with her own group and solo, for which she also composes. Her composition and play are inspired by the natural world, social issues, the Japanese old-style art of flower arrangement called Kado, and chemistry - which she enjoyed studying when she was a student.

Currently she plays creatively with a number of collaborators including Bill Wells and Kevin McHugh. She is a member of Gato Libre, an acoustic quartet directed by Natsuki Tamura. She also played in Satoko Fujii’s orchestra in Kobe, Yasuko also makes music for the Japanese improvised dance group ‘Manimani’, and is part of The Noisy Women Present She holds improvisation sessions in her town, believing that improv and expression can bring people together.

In 2020 she joined The Glasgow Improvisers Orchestra (GIO)’s online sessions on Zoom. In 2022 she played with GIO in reality at the first time at GIOfest XV. Returning to Japan, she played with GIO films edited by Ross Birrell at Okayama City Arts Festival. She composed for a few GIO festivals and Maria Sappho’s ‘VIR’ gig in 2024.

You can buy tickets for the festival at the GIO website or through the venue - @cca_glasgow

GIOfest runs from 20-22 November.

just wanted to a say a big thank you to everyone who's said/wrote lovely things about "Seventeen", whether online or to me personally.

I was (still am) very anxious about putting out music and have to battle with myself daily that it's okay to do so. seeing your thoughtful responses has been really encouraging and has helped me feel a little more at peace with putting it out there x
