Happy Children’s Book Week! 😊

Our children absolutely love this gem of a board book from our library.

In this story, our children go on a musical journey with a cheeky, playful frog on a drizzly day. The frog has fun exploring its forest with hilarious narrow escapes from creatures that go ‘Snap! Snip! Splash! Quack! Snack!’ until we reach a harmonious celebration of all the wonderful sounds we heard along the way.

We love that this onomatopoetic story is told in rhyme and is beautifully captured by vivid, humorous illustrations.

What we’ll cherish about reading this book with our children is how much they loved narrating along with us. Sometimes loud, sometimes in whispers. They brought our whole forest adventure to life!

Their favourite line ‘Clap! Clap! Clap! Nap’ always made them burst into giggles. Naturally, this book became one of their favourite reads before we snuggled together for nap time.

A truly delightful forest soundscape to celebrate the theme ‘Symphony of Stories’ for Children’s Book Week this year 🎶

🌿 Çünkü umut, bazen sessizce toprağın altından çıkan küçücük bir filizle başlar.

The Dream Keeper by Anna Walker is one of the most beautiful picture books I’ve read this year.

When a little girl is frightened by the shadows in her room, a mysterious Dream Keeper sets off across forests and seas carrying a dream made especially for her. Along the way he gathers light, kindness and help from his friends, determined to deliver it safely through the darkness.

I love how gently the story speaks to childhood fears. It never dismisses them or tells children not to be scared. Instead, it acknowledges those worries and offers comfort, reassurance and hope.

The illustrations are absolutely stunning. The contrast between the dark, looming shadows and the glowing lantern light creates a dreamlike atmosphere that feels both magical and safe. There are so many little details hidden amongst the pages that little ones will enjoy spotting on each reread.

This is a wonderful book to share with children who are nervous at bedtime, worried about the dark, or simply need a reminder that they are never facing their fears alone.

* ISBN: 9781529520682
* Publisher: Walker Books Australia
* Pub Date: 27/04/2026

📚
What we loved about THE DREAM KEEPER:
* Firstly, we love the idea of a dream keeper. And how excellent that the dream keeper in this story was a tortoise. Steady, slow and wise - we could not think of a better creature to be given this important job.
* Secondly, we loved the concurrent narrative as we saw the little girl’s room and dream state, and the tortoise’s world where he crafts new dreams.
* Thirdly, the colours were so so beautiful.
* Finally, oh my! Our Mummy was utterly captivated by the whimsical and soft illustrations that were conveying such big ideas and feelings. She is in love!

What a night! ✨📚🍋✨

Huge congratulations to Julia Busuttil Nishimura and Myo Yim, whose 'Sundays Under the Lemon Tree' took home Small Publishers Book of the Year at the Australian Book Industry Awards in Sydney last night. We've loved working on this book with such a special partnership, and it's wonderful to see how it has resonated with readers and booksellers around Australia.

We also wanted to share that Scribble had three books shortlisted in this category — half the shortlist! — with Anna Walker's 'Between' and Hilary Bell and Antonia Pesenti's 'Hello Cocky' joining 'Sundays'. We were lucky to celebrate together in person (we missed you, Myo!).

This kind of industry recognition means a lot to our tiny team and the care that goes into building this list. Independent publishing is a tough gig, and we are endlessly grateful to the talented authors and illustrators who trust us with their work.

And what joy too for the marvellous Zeno Sworder (also a mentor in MIRROR Mentorship), who won not only Picture Book of the Year but the big one, Book of the Year, for his beautiful 'When I Was a Giant'. A testament to Zeno's vision, and a special moment for the Australian children's book community to share.
