Last week, I drove across Canada with my mom, from Toronto to Vancouver.

As the landscape changed, I kept being reminded of artists I love.

The windblown white pines of Northern Ontario and the Group of Seven. The endless bands of prairie and Agnes Martin. The Rockies bringing Katherine Curci’s work to life. Geoff McFetridge’s wheat fields and homage to home. And finally, arriving on the West Coast to deep greens and the connection to the coast, thinking of Brent Wadden and Susan Point.

A reminder that art shapes the way we see the world around us.

And mostly, just feeling very grateful to call Canada home. 🇨🇦

Celebrate the new book Anni Albers: Constructing Textiles with a reading from Albers’s text “Tactile Sensibility” at The Hole. Albers wrote, “We touch things to assure ourselves of reality. We touch the objects of our love. We touch the things we form. Our tactile experiences are elemental.”

Join us in an open discussion of Albers’s text with curators from the Josef and Anni Albers Foundation in the setting of The Hole’s current exhibition Thread Count, featuring emerging and established artists working with textile today. Albers’s words continue to resonate and inspire, making a case that contact with materials is at the heart of what it means to be human.

Copies of Anni Albers: Constructing Textiles, newly released by Yale University Press and featuring writings by Albers herself, as well as essays by Glenn Adamson, Karis Medina, Amy Jean Porter, and Jeffrey Saletnik, will be available for purchase. The book was edited by Brenda Danilowitz and Fabienne Eggelhöfer, curators of the major traveling exhibition organized by the Josef and Anni Albers Foundation and the Zentrum Paul Klee, Bern (November 7, 2025–February 22, 2026), in collaboration with the Belvedere, Vienna (April 30–August 16, 2026).
