Where do I even begin?!

Fish Camp has meant something to me since the day I was freshman at A&M. I knew I wanted to be a counselor because mine were not only amazing but so fun and cool. I wanted to help freshman have a smoother transition into college and be the rock my counselors were for me. Throughout my time being involved in fish camp I’ve not only been able to be there for countless freshman entering college but I’ve met some amazing people that I consider my best friends.

I want to start off by thanking my former counselors for setting a good example for me and helping me ease into college. I want to thank my past and present chairs for believing in me and giving me encouragement when it’s much needed. I want to thank my former and fellow counselors, that having yall by my side at camp and hangouts has been nothing but joy, not only are we counselors together but yall are friends I know I can always count on. Last but not least I certainly want to thank the freshman, thank you for buying in, willingness to learn and overall making fish camp happen! Thank you to everyone for being the ones I know I can always count on and for being my friend. I love everyone I have encountered at fish camp and hold yall very close to my heart.

Finally,
Thank you to my partner, Abby you have been a blessing to get to know inside and outside of fish-camp. You have become one of my best friends in such a short time. I love every memory we have had together and cherish the ones we made at camp together. Fish camp wouldn’t have been the same without you by my side. I love you so much and can’t wait to grow our friendship. Our DG is so insanely lucky to know a great person like you!!

These memories will certainly last a lifetime and thank you to everyone who has been in them.

A Letter to Fish Camp:

There is not a better organization to be a part of. Each and every day, I wake up proud to say that I am a member of Fish Camp. The impact this organization has had on my life is truly immeasurable. I appreciate each and every person who has been a part of giving me this opportunity. I continue to fall in love with this organization each and every day. If this was my last ride, there isn’t a better group of counselors, chairs, directors, crew members, or freshmen I would have rather done it with.

To my chairs: you two have impacted my life more than you will ever know! You each helped me grow into a better man, counselor, and Aggie. To my fellow counselors: I love each and every one of you, and I hope and pray you all realize how much you mean to me. You each are so special and will always hold a special place in my heart. To the wonderful freshmen I had the opportunity to serve: thank you for embracing me and allowing me to impact your lives. You are each so special, and your impact on A&M is already being felt. To the Byrds: there are no other people I’d rather have represented. I walked with so much pride knowing I was representing two of the greatest individuals ever. Every person in Camp Byrd welcomed me with open arms and showed me what it’s like to be loved.

To Lisa, my most perfect partner: I wouldn’t wish to have had this experience with anyone else. You’ve changed my life forever, and I will hold the memories we made close to my heart forever. You were the greatest partner, but somehow and even greater friend. DG 12 is so lucky to have you!

To Fish Camp: thank you for changing my life. You gave me a reason, and something to fall in love with. Each and every day I work to make an impact in this organization. Fish Camp helped save my life and make me who I am today! There are not enough words in the world to say how thankful I am. I found my place at A&M because of Fish Camp. This organization is so special and has changed my life in ways I will never forget. It is such an honor to be apart of something so special!

I pray this wasn’t my last ride to Lakeview, but if it was, I will love you forever Fish Camp!

Dear Fish Camp,
I’ve been to Lakeview for four summers in a row, and my time as a counselor has been nothing short of amazing. From the very beginning, Fish Camp has been a place of growth, laughter, and lifelong memories. Getting the opportunity to serve as both a crew counselor and a camp counselor has meant the world to me. I’m so grateful to have experienced both sides of camp. Each role gave me a different perspective and helped me create sooo many friendships that I’ll carry with me forever. Fish Camp has truly made me the person I am today. It’s taught me how to be more open, confident, and welcoming. I never imagined how much I would grow through this experience, and how fish camp would be my favorite Aggie tradition.

To Camp Byrd, Every single person I’ve met through this camp has been nothing but amazing. From the counselors, crew, freshmen, namesake & to the chairs - y’all have truly made my last year at Fish Camp so special. I literally will never forget this experience.
Freshmen in Camp Byrd, y’all were so fun to be around and joke with. Your energy, spirit, and excitement made this camp something really unforgettable. Don’t forget Camp Byrd will always be here for you through your Aggie journey! Don’t ever hesitate to contact any one of us for anything.
A special shoutout to my DG family — Y’ALL ARE AMAZING. LITERALLY THE BEST DG EVER. Thank you for being so funny, for always having good vibes, and being so open to Chrystal and I !! I can’t wait to see yall when school starts!

Dear Fish Camp,

Thank you so much for allowing me to become an amazing mentor to the incoming TAMU class of 2029. I’ve made countless core memories with a magnificent group of people. And for that, I’ll forever be grateful. I’ll definitely be going out for counselor again in 2026.

To my fellow Camp Byrd Counselors, thank you so much for the memories, laughs, and tears. Y’all mean the absolute world to me. Being a part of a spectacular group of people like y’all is beyond a blessing. Y’all truly made me feel seen, heard, and cared for. And for that, I am forever thankful. I love y’all so much.

To all my Camp Byrd Freshmen, thank you for allowing me to lead you into a new chapter of your story. I hope that I made an unforgettable impact on your life and I hope in the future, you can look back and say, “that counselor who forgot his shirt was the best mentor ever.” You are what MADE my experience as a counselor. Getting to see you buy in and be passionate from the very beginning was so special. Watching you grow comfortable with one another was also remarkable. Always remember that you have a friend in me and don’t hesitate to reach out for advice, help, or support. I’ll always be here for you. I love you so much.

Session A, especially Camp Byrd:

Where do I even begin. I’m holding back tears as I’m coming up with how to put this. From the moment I was selected to be a first year counselor, to what the end result would be, there isn’t enough words to express it. I cannot thank Camp Byrd enough and for our co-chairs for an amazing experience. Making the transition from the biggest camp last year (Allison) to the smallest camp, it was a bit of an adjustment but somehow I made it look easy. And thank you to my counselors for everything and for my DG kids for making my job so much easier. I couldn’t have asked for a better camp to spend my first year as a counselor with. Love you all 💚💚💚💚!!!
