🎥 Exciting updates from the Eastern Effects team as we gear up for the Short Film Challenge! This week, our talented crew gathered at our Brooklyn stage to brainstorm and write the script for our short film, which will explore the theme of Dramady. Present during the session were Zach (Director), Hayley (AD), Chidiogo (Producer), Kim (Production Design), and Elijah (DP).

Our productive session involved conducting rewrites and discussing our shooting location. The team was given a full tour of the facility and were truly impressed with the space. After careful consideration, they decided to shoot at a bar in Woodside, Queens, to better match the timing and feel of the script.

We’re excited to hit the ground running this weekend on-location using Eastern Effects’ gear! Be sure to stay tuned as we’ll be capturing real-time pics of the shoot. Let the creativity unfold! 🎬✨

🎬 Exciting news from Eastern Effects! We are thrilled to announce that our very own Bruce Jones will be leading a team as part of the 2025 Short Film Challenge! We’re in great company alongside other talented rental houses.

This year’s film challenge is officially underway, with teams revealed and starting to crew up! Brought to you by Beyond the Film School, Reel Works, and Lux Lighting, each team will create a theme-based short film in NJ/NY, writing, shooting, and editing their projects in just two weeks using only their resources. As part of our support for the team’s production, they’ll be able to “Get Effected” by our rental house and studios. We’re cheering on all the teams as they embark on this creative journey!

Eastern Effects welcomes team members:
Chidiogo Igboekwe
Unni Nair
Zach Maldonado
Elijah Caballero
Haley Birch

I finally remembered the password to this account 😂

But seriously, the BH Bild Expo was a movie 🎥 this year and I was happy to connect with so many creatives there. I tried to tag everybody I met, so if missed somebody or you recognize somebody tag them in the comments.

SB: This is only a third of the footage I have. Get this up to 100 likes for a directors cut.

We’re proud to honor Chidiogo Igboekwe at the 2025 F. John Outcalt Award for Outstanding Filmmaking Screening. Her film, “Tabula Rasa,” follows a young African American man confronting his estranged, mentally ill father–a veteran impacted by government experiments.

“Directing my first film was a dream come true. It pushed me to advocate for myself and for the stories I believe in.” - Chidiogo

The Outcalt Award, endowed in memory of writer and activist Forman John Outcalt, celebrates filmmakers whose work reflects Reel Works’ values: personal storytelling, artistic excellence, and community impact.

It’s a joy to finally share the official poster for A Beauty Supply in Queens.

A film led by two incredibly talented actors, Caroline Chikezie and Clem Cheung, but more than that, two beautiful humans who poured their hearts into this story. They gave their all and brought these characters to life in the way every writer dreams of.

And that they did.

Today, on my father’s birthday, I’m dedicating this film to him.

4/4. To my guardian angel.
Rest in peace, my amazing father, and happy heavenly birthday.

I’m overjoyed to share this personal film with the world. A well-needed conversation that brings the immigrant experience across different cultures together, rather than divide.

Trailer coming soon. Screenings coming soon.

I LOVE WHEN WOMEN.

our dear girl "EROTOMANIAC" won The @focusfeatures Best Narrative Award 🌟 at this year's @reelworks film festival (+++many exciting things to come...)

this was the first film i produced for reel works back in april 2024. having studied psychology in undergrad, it felt like a full circle moment to make a psychological drama that explores a debilitating mental disorder + the hazards of extreme isolation. congratulations and thank you to the cast and crew for making it beautiful 💐
