MESSIAH | Norway Tour | Det Norske Blåseensemble | Peter Whelan What a wonderful week. The music, the places, the people, the bestest of musicians-colleagues-friends. Concerts in Porsgrunn, Halden and at Den Norske Opera in Oslo, growing confidence in arias that have kind of felt like struggles before. Eric happy! The rise and fall of Masetto ossia Il dissoluto ossia Il Don Giovanni. Last curtain fall tonight and I want to say thank you to this lovely team of @staatstheaterdarmstadt colleagues on and off stage! (Won’t mention everyone) I look at opera as a team sport. Still, I am very happy with the Masetto I created - a loser, indeed, but still a person who stands up for himself and for his beliefs. Or as one critic puts it: “… Masetto von Eric Ander, der seine Wut – es ist noch die vorrevolutionäre Zeit, die später in der Gestalt des Figaro nicht mehr zu bändigen sein wird – unter Kontrolle halten muss, der Figur erfreulicherweise das übliche Tölpelhafte nimmt und ihm eine innere Größe zugesteht.” A special thank you in this case also to my Zerlina @julianazzara Toi toi toi for tonight everyone and hopefully see you soon!
