When @luckycraftsw asked me to make a reel for the Surface Wander 120, I immediately said yes without thinking. After hanging up I realized I’d actually never fished it lol 💀. So I asked my friend @_fearnofish_ to do a live with me on YouTube so I could ask HIM how he fishes it as he’s been absolutely putting the smack down on stripers with it up north. Thank you Victor for always sharing your knowledge in such a clear way. But beyond just the knowledge is the credibility - this guy fishes harder than almost anyone I know and he ALWAYS puts in the work. It’s a common trait that I see in every single slayer. Yes, the highlight catches get all the attention, but rarely do we see the dedication to the craft that allowed those catches to happen. No shortcuts, no magic spot - hard work, commitment, and love for the game is what allows the magical moments to happen. Victor embodies this man…dude loves the game and fishes accordingly. This live gave me the confidence to give the surface wander a shot on a recent trip and while the yellowfin were babies, it was so cool to throw something for the first time and get bit. The Surface Wander is a LEGIT option, you don’t have to do much. Fish it slow, and these things have an amazing shimmy that made me understand why fish eat it. Wishing everyone a wonderful day. Tight lines!! #saltwaterfishing #oceanfishing #surffishing #fishingaddict #beachfishing

My friend @_fearnofish_ had just joined me on a live showing me how he liked to fish the @luckycraftsw Surface Wander for NorCal striper fishing. I took his experience and advice to heart (basically…fish it slooow) and tried tossing it onto a kelp paddy and got bit on my first 2 casts by cute little baby yellowfin. Obviously not the grade we were hoping for but still so fun to try something new and see that it definitely works! The surface wander will 100% become a part of my arsenal from boats and shore moving forward. It sits right below the surface and I was mixing in pauses with 1/4 to 1/2 cranks. It shimmies erratically like a struggling baitfish and you don’t need to do much to produce the necessary action. Was using my @okumafishingusa Salina 5k with 30 lb @opsin_fluorocarbon leader and paired with the Okuma Silver Slayer which is actually a tarpon rod, but it felt great and got the job done for my topwater fishing. When I first fished the Salina, I didn’t like it that much but I think it was because I’m so used to smaller profile inshore reels. I absolutely love the Salina now, super buttery drag system, nice power handle, and it’s held up perfectly even tho I’ve put it thru the ringer of saltwater plunges and Baja sand. IMO an excellent option at a very reasonable price point. Wishing everyone a wonderful day! Tight lines!! #saltwaterfishing #okumafishingusa #oceanfishing #fishingaddict #socalfishing
