Title: Understory Author: Chloe Benjamin Format: 📖&🎧 Narrator: Maggi-Meg Reed Running Time: 20 hours, 37 min Pages 512 Pub date: Sept 1, 2026 The story centers on Laurel Salter, a 36-year-old mycologist, who takes a job washing dishes at the remote McMurdo Station in Antarctica to escape her grief over the loss of her son and a painful divorce. A mysterious light known as the “Arc” appears across the ice. The light draws a team of physicists to the base, including Laurel’s former husband, Eli. Laurel is convinced that the Arc is a portal to a parallel universe, where time moves backward. She tries to persuade Eli to help her use it to turn back the clock to save their son. I loved Part 1 of this book. I was fully engaged, but things got super weird really fast when they crossed over to the Duoverse. My favorite parts of this book were the descriptions of Antarctica and life at the McMurdo Station. I also loved Laurel and Gloria’s friendship throughout this book. I thought it was well developed. 📖&🎧I am glad that I had a physical copy and the audiobook to immersive read this book. Maggi-Meg Reed really did a fantastic job narrating this story. Her content always brings a smile to my face, and she’s got lots of great recs 🥳 @wellreadkami Another writer with fabulous content and book recs! She’s also so supportive and engaging, which I appreciate 🎉🥰 Can’t wait to give this one a read! @lindseyprewittwrites Courtney’s bookshelves look exactly like mine, so I know I’ll love everything she recommends 🙌🥰 This will be my first by Katherine Center, which I’m excited about 🎉@courtneyjonesreads Jess not only has some of the most spot-on and hilarious writing content, but she’s got great reading recs too!
