DÉVOTIONS collection d’huiles sur bois, 2023–2026

Les Dévotions sont des fragments, des confessions, des scènes intimes ou des prières. Des images qui demandent à être regardées de près.

Chaque peinture est une œuvre autonome. Réunies, elles forment un récit ouvert, où les images se répondent et font surgir de nouvelles correspondances.

Alone, together, 150 x 200 cm, oil on oxidized steel, 2026 (private collection)

This painting was shown with Mortágua Gallery and created for their inaugural presentation titled Scaffolding. I borrowed the title from the Strokes’ first album Is This it.

The theme and composition were inspired by the tragic passing of our dear friend Rossella Traverso, who despite the crowds she surrounded herself with, suffered so often of an unmeasurable sentiment of solitude.

This painting is dedicated to her, and to all the ones who miss her.

Du 18 au 29 mai dernier, a eu lieu l’exposition “Partition de rien” à l’Espace culturel Maurice Utrillo, à Pierrefitte-sur-Seine.

L’exposition m’a d’abord été proposée comme une carte blanche. Finalement, j’ai choisi d’y inviter différents artistes qui m’inspirent et avec lesquels je trouve des points de convergence entre mon travail et le leur.

L’exposition articulait les notions de répétition, de fragment et d’états pré-verbaux.
Merci à @espaceutrillo pour l’invitation et à la ville de Saint-Denis ( @villesaintdenis ) pour le soutien logistique.

Fragment du texte de l’exposition :

“Les oeuvres ici présents ne parlent pas de la vie. Elles parlent avec elle. Comme l’oiseau qui refait son nid avec les mêmes gestes ou la fleur qui s’ouvre au même moment chaque printemps, les artistes de cette exposition participent à un rythme qui les précède et les dépasse. Leur point de départ - pierre, tissu, objet usé, câble, métaux, papier - est le lieu d’un geste répété jusqu’à l’apparition d’une présence.

Partition de rien est à lire ainsi : partir de rien, partitionner ce rien, diviser, découper, assembler, jusqu’à ce que quelque chose surgisse qui n’était pas là avant.

[…]

Ce qui réunit ces artistes se trouve dans la façon d’être au travail : lente, répétée, attentive à ce que la matière fait d’elle-même quand on lui accorde le temps. Chaque œuvre ici est le fragment d’un geste plus grand que le geste lui-même. Ce que ces pratiques cherchent, ensemble, c’est cet instant suspendu où quelque chose existe déjà sans avoir encore trouvé son nom.”

“In Portuguese, the title refers to that tongue-clicking sound of disapproval or mild contempt. The piece plays with the tension between this gesture and the scrap-metal towers, its sonic transcription—"TSC-TSC-TSC"—carved directly into the wood. Here, the painting becomes a speaking being, filling the seemingly abstract lines with a slippery, ambiguous meaning.”
