Economist Alfred Carniege came down to the Unite office to explain why a wealth tax just WON’T work 👀

Or at least, that’s what some of the super-rich might want you to think 🤔

A one-off emergency 1% wealth tax on the assets of the "super-rich" with fortunes exceeding £4 million would generate approximately £25 billion in a year to help fund pay our public services, invest in industry and tackle economic inequality .

Shell has done so much greenwashing, it’s even confusing them.

Today on 🌍 Earth Day, at Shell’s London HQ, @_forgottenhistory posed as their Sustainability team, and even they seemed to really buy into it - even accepting ‘well done’ stickers - and patting themselves on the back for a job well done.

This is how far their greenwashing has gone - even they have forgotten the devastating reality of their crimes.

So on Earth day here’s a reminder:

🔥Shell has made the Niger Delta the most polluted oil region on earth, and now they are walking away without cleaning up.

🔥They knew, from 1965 at the latest, that the production and combustion of fossil fuels were increasing the concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere and this is the primarily cause of human made climate change.

🔥 Climate change and the current levels of warming, to which Shell has contributed, have roughly doubled the likelihood of a disaster like Super Typhoon Odette in the Philippines.

We exist to make life really hard for the fossil fuel industry - right here in the belly of the beast.
If you want to fight against Shell, then join Fossil Free London.

Our next welcome talk is 🗓️ Thursday 23rd April 🕕 6PM 📍LARC, Whitechapel

48 hours remain - well roughly 48 hours (what am I? a clock?! if I was a clock I certainly wouldn’t say “48 hours remain” because that’s not how clocks work. fool. you’ve embarrassed yourself.

please welcome to the judging panel: the wonderful Adrian Gray, who has asked, nay: urged me to remind you to submit your short story of 500-1000 words by midnight tomorrow - his words, not mine…

“Broken Britain” is being thrown around a lot again - and every time, I hear this gem of a monologue in my head.

Enjoy this snippet from the one an only @_forgottenhistory Adrian Gray. Guaranteed belly laugh 😂

From Power to the People, a comedy pilot I produced in 2016.

Enjoy!

Much excellence at yesterday's #ACMS - one chicken, a celebrity T-Rex, David Lynch, multiple actual humans - AND the chance to play Pointless with the Permitted Heckles, courtesy of @robsedgebeer. (Big up the Eccles cakes! And the person who deployed "I only heard a SP-" while Callum was rhapsodising over SPF50 suncream. Heeee.)

More on December 1st!

THE ESCAPE FLIGHT THAT NEVER REACHED MOSCOW

September 1971. China was a storm of paranoia, propaganda, and purges. At its center: a British-built Hawker Siddeley Trident 1E, serial B-256, converted into a PLAAF VIP transport.

Inside its cabin sat Lin Biao—Mao’s heir apparent—his family, and aides. Just hours earlier, whispers of a coup codenamed Project 571 had surfaced: a plan involving PLA Air Force officers, possibly Lin’s own son, to strike at Mao himself. The plot collapsed, but its shadow loomed over every rivet of that jet.

At midnight, B-256 lifted off into the dark. The flight path was erratic—first circling, then veering north into Mongolia. At 03:00, it disintegrated in the steppe near Öndörkhaan. Beijing declared Lin a traitor, claiming he was fleeing to Moscow. Yet Soviet investigators later reported fuel still on board, burn patterns suggesting evasive low-level flight, and inconsistencies that fueled endless rumors of sabotage, interception, or betrayal.

For aviation historians and espionage watchers alike, the crash was more than a failed escape. It was a convergence of air corridors, intelligence games, and political knives sharpened in the shadows. A prestige jet meant to carry China’s elite instead became a tomb and a mystery—one that still haunts Cold War skies.

Project 571 ended in flames, but its secrets remain airborne.
