An everyday object can become something else entirely when we learn to look at it differently.

Gargi Sharma’s Experiments in Stillness won 2nd Place in the Still Life category of the Professional (now Series) competition at the 2026 Sony World Photography Awards.

Through photography and styling, Sharma gives familiar forms a new visual language. Carefully constructed compositions turn the ordinary into something open to interpretation, creating a quiet space for reflection and allowing subtle details to take on new significance.

A visual artist from India, Sharma trained in photography and communications. Her practice brings together intuition and technique to create images that evoke emotion and meaning.

What will you say with your photographs? Enter the Sony World Photography Awards via the link in bio.

I’m happy to announce the upcoming Delhi screening of my interview-led documentary, “Not a Wasteland: Tale of the Desert,” on October 3rd at Museo Camera, Centre for The Photographic Arts!

The film challenges the perception of deserts as barren wastelands and instead highlights their ecological, cultural, and climate significance. It features conversations with Dr. M.K. Ranjitsinh, Pradip Krishen, Sunita Narain, and the community members working to protect the Orans of the Thar Desert.

Following the screening, Q&A session where I’d love to hear your thoughts, answer questions, and discuss the film.

If you’re in Delhi, I would absolutely love to see you there. Please help me spread the word by sharing this post with your network, or tagging anyone in the comments who is passionate about conservation, climate action, or desert ecology. Let’s change how we view our deserts.

Book your seat through this link or by scanning the QR code in the poster- https://www.district.in/events/not-a-wasteland-tale-of-the-desert-film-screening-oct3-2026-buy-tickets

A special thanks to Mallika Arya
@mallikaarya30 for making this screening possible!

This past Friday, we did an event called “An Evening with Moths” at Jaigarh.

After a quick intro to the fascinating world of insects and moths, we gathered around our light sheet setup. As the night progressed, we were greeted by more and more moths, bright, colorful, and beautiful species!

It was a joy to witness these vibrant Moths with everyone. Here’s a little glimpse into our evening. I hope these photos help you view the insect world from a new perspective.

Special thanks to Jaigarh (@jaigarh) for opening your gates for this event, and to JVF (@jaipurvirasat) for continuously supporting my events around natural heritage in Jaipur!

Would also like to thank Laxmi (@meanderersoul) for making this event possible at Jaigarh. Photos other than moths are by Gargi (@_gagri) and Akhil.
