🌟 What’s On at KHT this September! 🌟

🎉 We’re celebrating 40 Years of KHT with alot on this month 🎉
Our latest exhibition, Connie Hart: One Stitch at a Time, honours the incredible legacy of Gunditjmara Elder and master weaver, the late Aunty Connie Hart. 🧵✨

As part of the exhibition, experience the stunning 2m long Gilgar Gundij Eel Basket by Sandra Aitken — Gunditjmara Elder, Master Weaver and Aunty Connie’s niece. This special work was commissioned by the KHT to celebrate our 40th anniversary, and has been acquired into our unique collection of Southeastern Australia art, artefacts and cultural belongings.

While here, you can also view a special film of the making of Gilgar Bunditj Eel Basket, that shares the story behind the creation of the work. 🎥

September is also bursting with workshops for kids, families, and community, so come along, get hands-on, and be part of the celebration. 🎨👧🏽👦🏽

Introducing a final workshop @theoldbargallery running during the “Am I Dreaming?” exhibition with the wonderful @_ghostgum !

In this workshop, Madi will be teaching participants how to create their own unique wall hanging/mobile from natural flora, woven sculpture, found or personal objects, beaded works, fabric and embroidery! The class will open with a guided intuitive artmaking session, allowing attendees to connect with themselves, their unique artistic expression and associate personal meaning to the visual elements hung in their mobile. Madi will be teaching Wadawurrung weaving techniques with Raffia grass to those who choose to add woven pieces to their wall hanging, as well as traditional knotting techniques to connect all hung items! This workshop has no set end goal and is open to personal artistic expression, meaning your work will be as unique as you are!
Participants in this class will be asked to bring in at least three natural found items, and/or small personal items they would like to add to their wall hanging. All other materials will be supplied 😊

‘Hung out to Dry’ is a recognition and representation of what it is to live within the system of colonial oppression as a
Blak woman… it is also a celebration of our grace, talent, nurturing nature, strength, resilience, beauty, intelligence, leadership, and inherent ability to create. It is a recognition of the pain and suffering experienced by our Matriarchs and women in our communities, but also a recognition of our divine power as healers. teachers and creators.
