This is what showing up for Chicago dogs can look like.

A huge thank you to 93XRT, The Wiener’s Circle, Verna Bailey and every human who came out yesterday, brought their dogs, made something, bought something, donated something or simply spent part of their Saturday with MCP.

Custom tees, pet portraits, hot dogs and a whole lot of dogs packed into one afternoon, all with generosity behind it.

We say it all the time: ordinary people are capable of extraordinary things when we do them together. Sometimes that looks like fostering. Sometimes it’s donating. Sometimes it’s opening your business, sharing your audience, making art, or throwing a really great PUP-UP.

Every bit of it gives us more capacity to keep showing up for Chicago dogs and the people who love them.

We are so grateful to be surrounded by people and partners who find their own way to be part of the work.

Thank you for making your circle a little bigger for ours.

Love our humans. Love our dogs. Love our city.

Maddie

Deaf since birth and still somehow the best listener in the room.

Maddie moves through the world with heart, eye contact, and main character resilience. Sign language queen. Professional soft soul.

Different never meant less for this girl.
If anything, Maddie makes life feel fuller, sweeter, and a little more magical.

Scenes from my travel show featuring Venice. I’ve never had so much spaghetti and pizza, but I enjoyed every bit of it. Venice was fun. So much history. Couldn’t wrap my head around everything being on water. Also I don’t actually have a travel show.. maybe one day.

Maddie

Maddie was born deaf, but the world she experiences is anything but quiet. She understands life through eyes, heart, and connection, reading hands, faces, and the small moments that most of us rush past.

With patience and love, she’s learned sign language and built a bond with her people that goes deeper than words. Maddie is living proof that “different” doesn’t mean less, it means more. More trust. More presence. More beauty in the way she sees the world.

She’s looking for a family who understands that the strongest connections aren’t always spoken, they’re felt.

Maddie isn’t just special.

Maddie.

Maddie came from Chicago Animal Care & Control like nothing we’d ever seen, adorable and happy, but wonderfully different.

She was wobbly, her eyes could do gymnastics, and she moved through life like a tiny cowgirl riding through mazes only Maddie could see.

She was a deaf puppy with zero training and very little understanding of the world. When the shelter asked her to do simple things most dogs can do, while she was trying to process stress, confusion, and a whole new planet of expectations, it proved one thing: MCP or bust.

There was something magical in her chaos.

Her heart glittered in every wobble, every soft under bite peek, and fast paced, wild goat zoomie.

We saw her like Tinker Bell, pure sparkle with a brave little body.

In foster, it got real.

Shelter sickness showed up, and so did the Serengeti mouth that can come with deaf pups who never got the chance to learn how to dog.

It was hard. Patience wore thin. Progress wasn’t linear.

But Maddie’s determination to prevail, to learn, and to actually retain what was being taught, paired with the commitment of her incredible foster dad (and mom), is the kind of thing that turns ordinary people into real life heroes.

Thank you, Chang and Natalie, for showing up when it was messy and staying long enough for the magic to take shape.

If you’re looking for a gem that fills your world in ways you never imagined, Maddie is it.

Social, smart, different, silly, beautiful, and absolutely capable with a reminder to us all that with intention, commitment to putting in the work— we are capable of doing hard things.

Maddie rocks!
