One thing I can say with absolute certainty is that there are three constants in my life that I never question: the governance and guidance of my Creator, the presence of my ancestors, and the unyielding blessings my children’s lives have granted me. These five human beings have shown me fullness, discovery, light, purpose, and the real, true meaning of AGAPE love.

I birthed them from my body. I nursed every single one of them from my breast. I guided them with a fearlessness that could only have come from the hands of God, and little by little, I offered them to the world. Kaysean. Najée. Rasheed. Kaii. Ani. Five different spirits. Five different journeys. Five different ways God stretched my heart and introduced me to parts of myself I may have never known otherwise.

These five have never, ever, not once made me regret being their mother. Through every parenting trial, worry, sacrifice and lesson, they have given back to my life more than I could ever calculate. And this morning, they poured it all over me. Hugs and love. Roses and bouquets. Hand-drawn expressions, fruit, food, calls, FaceTimes and pop-ups. A whole day of making sure their mother knew: We see you. We love you. We appreciate you.

I’ve said it over and over: my babies made me the woman so many of you have come to love. They shaped me to be gentle, nurturing, neutral, diplomatic, encouraging, strong and soft. They sparked my creativity, gave guts and meaning to my entrepreneurial endeavors, and with every parenting trial, sharpened my warrior sword. Motherhood didn’t just give me children. It gave me me.

And now my grandbabies are the continuation, the beautiful evidence that everything I poured into my babies didn’t stop with them. It multiplied.
Before they could have a birthday, I had to have one. My life had to happen for theirs to happen. So every year I celebrate the miracle that I was born, I also celebrate everything that was born through me.
Happy Birthday to us, my babies. Everything I poured into you somehow found its way home. I love you. I love us. There is simply nothing like it. ❤️ #HappyBirthdayToUs #BirthdayReflections #MotherhoodUnfiltered #BlackMotherhood #BlackFamilyLove

And my grandbabies… whew. ❤️ The continuation. The abundance. The beautiful evidence that the love I poured into my babies didn’t stop with them, it multiplied. To now watch my children love, nurture, protect and pour into their own babies is a blessing I don’t even know how to put into words. My grandchildren have given me another version of myself, another kind of love, another opportunity to witness what came through me continue to grow beyond me. They are the fruit of my fruit. My blood, my babies’ babies, my ancestors continuing forward. What an incredible thing to live long enough to see your love become generations. Thank you, my grandbabies, for adding even more fullness, sweetness and purpose to this life of mine. ❤️ Thank you my sons! Happy birthday to us! #HappyBirthdayToUs #BirthdayReflections #MotherhoodUnfiltered #BlackMotherhood #BlackFamilyLove

I am absolutely enthralled watching my sons become fathers. Witnessing the men they have grown into through the way they love, protect, and pour into their children. One of my life’s greatest gifts to watch my babies raise their own babies with such tenderness, patience, and intention. The reality that love doesn’t end with us. It grows, it stretches across generations, and becomes the legacy we leave behind. My heart is so full watching that legacy unfold before my eyes. I’m feeling blessed 🌺 @pjwoods_ @_iamkboogie thank you.

She’s only 2🌸 My little Nugget! My granddaughter 🩷sitting in her car seat, feet barely touching the edge, and when asked what she wants to be when she grows up, she said:
“I want to be an astronaut… so I can go up and grab the moon.” Not the stars. Not something small.
The moon. She said it like it’s already hers. Baby, go get it. We got you!
@_iamkboogie @_____karisma you all are responsible for making her this great! 🙏🏽Thank you🙏🏽

I give myself one day off a week in this season and I don’t play about it. Rest or joy. Stillness or movement. But always me.

So me and my G Sis @kzuri75 drove to NYC in brick weather. City Winery sitting right on the Hudson. Parking was not our friend, and the cold was disrespectful.

And still, we walked straight into a time capsule.

Seeing one of my childhood favorites, @kwamevision , cracked something open. Old school lane. Flashes of the past. Nothing but love. Nothing but memory. It reminded me who I’ve always been.

This is the season I’m in. Not saying no to myself. Not explaining joy. Protecting my one day off like it matters, because it does.

And somehow I still got a little treat, saw family @_____karisma sun @_iamkboogie , loved on lil boo boo grandbaby Kenzie😘😘😘, and let the last 24 hours land exactly as they should.

Perfection, in real time.
Shot out to 4SOB 4 Shades of Black my dance crew from back in the day. I had him personally sign my CD cover for us! @newtonnicole @wynterunlimited @kzuri75 for giving me some of the best days of my@childhood dancing to these tunes and many others. Times I’ll never forget!😘😘

Happy Birthday, Kaysean @_iamkboogie

The birth of this one human being changed the entire trajectory of my life.
From the moment you arrived, every decision I made for the next 32 years and still moving forward was touched by you. You influenced where I lived, the children I went on to have, my profession, the friends I chose, and the lifestyle I committed to.

You sparked my first real drive in life: the hustler, the provider, the woman determined to shape another human being the right way and then do it four more times.

You strengthened my spirituality because I had to pray over your soul daily. You made me intentional. You taught me to be unselfish, to be a healer, to surround myself with the right influences because everything that touched me would touch you.

You were the best baby, the best toddler, the best teenager, the best young man, and now the best father. The best sibling. The best grandson. And most importantly, the best son.
I cannot think of a single day I have ever been disappointed in you. Your mistakes were never the kind that brought worry. They were the Kaysean kind, the kind you learned from instantly and never repeated.

You have touched so many lives with your generosity, kindness, and quiet strength.

And in this season, my prayer for you is simple:
Go after everything you want for yourself.
No more question marks, only exclamation points. I want drive, focus, and boldness, not just so we can be proud of you, but so you can be proud of yourself.

Such a humble young man, but this season I want you to puff out your chest a little. Add some stank on it. Put respect on your own name. Stand in the heart of the fire because there is nothing normal about you.

Especially not today.

Do your big one, baby. Because you can. And you do not need anyone’s permission.
It is yours.

I love you. We love you.
Happy Birthday, Kaysean. ❤️
