POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

classroom favs! | SEL Collection | Part Two 🤎📚

Books are such a powerful resource. They open hearts and minds, spark conversations, introduce new perspectives, and give children a safe way to begin making sense of themselves, their feelings, their relationships and the world around them.
And remember — a book doesn’t necessarily have to be about emotions to support social and emotional learning. Almost any story can open opportunities to explore empathy, identity, resilience, belonging, connection and regulation. Sometimes, it’s simply about the conversations we create around it.
I especially love using books about Country and nature as part of this. 🌿 Slowing down, noticing, listening and connecting with the natural world can become a beautiful strategy for mindfulness and emotional regulation.

Books give us the starting point — it’s what we do with them, the questions we ask and the conversations that follow that can make them so powerful. 🤎📖

Today in Australia, we’re celebrating the dads, grandfathers, stepdads, uncles and all the father figures who encourage a love of books, stories and reading in the children in their lives.

I’m so thankful that our four boys have a Dad who leads with love and empathy, and who believes that one of the cornerstones of developing both is reading widely. Reading stories that take us beyond our own experiences, introduce us to different people and perspectives and help us better understand the world around us.

So tonight’s shelfie is for the dads and father figures who read the bedtime stories, share the funny books, talk about what they’re reading and show children that reading is for everyone.

📚 Books featured:

👶🏽The Baby Sleeps — Lisa Dick & Laura Bee
❤️Heartman — Stephen Hogtun
🐻Daddy Bear — Rory H. Mather and Helene Magisson
🛝Superheroes in the Park — Ian Eagleton & Hayley Wells
🥰Every Dad is Special by Sarah Ayoub and Kate Moon
🌏My Dad Makes the World Go Round and Around — Maddy Mara & Andrew Joyner
🤗Love You, Daddy — Karen Blair
⏱️How to Train a Dad — Sally Barns & Noeémie Gionet Landry
🤗My Dad’s a Dynamo! — Phil Cummings & Hannah Marks
✨To Be Your Dad — Josh Pyke & Inge Daniels
🌙Goodnight Daddy — Gregg Dreise

This book is just screaming to be read aloud.

From the front cover you are immediately drawn in…it’s a Gibbon…called Glenda…playing pickleball!

And it doesn’t disappoint once you open it up. Kelly Brodie-Brown just seems like such a master of rhyme and rhythm when it comes to her writing…you read it and it just screams to be read out loud to kids.

The illustrations just bring the words to life. It’s fun from front to back…and it is going in the ‘to be bought’ pile.

The Queen of fun rhyming character driven books is back (and once again has been paired with a truly phenomenal illustrator 🤯).

I absolutely adore Kelly Brodie-Browns books, they always have so much rhythm and Gibbon Glenda Pickleball Contender is no different 🙂.

Inge Daniels done absolutely gorgeous illustrations and the whole story is truly just a masterpiece...my Mum has just taken up Pickleball and she thinks so too 😏.

Published by the awesome team at Scholastic it's a heartfelt, funny must read 🙂.

As a teacher, these are the books I wish every family had at home.

They’re the books that help us talk about the big things before our children face them.

✨ Understanding and managing big feelings
✨ Consent, body safety and healthy boundaries
✨ Positive self-talk and self-worth
✨ Bravery, resilience and trying hard things
✨ Celebrating different strengths
✨ Kindness, empathy and communication

As a mum, these books are on our own bookshelf because they’re the conversations I want to have with my boys from an early age. 🩵

Save this for your next Kmart or Target trip.

Gibbon Glenda: Pickleball Contender!

Glenda was a gibbon with a solid claim to fame; when it came to playing pickleball, she’d never lost a game. Winning felt so wonderful, it became her sole ambition. She was obsessed with being best, she had to win every competition. But what happens when Glenda meets a new pickleball contender?
