Happy pride month from us here at Nexus!!

Starting this month off with a bit of history, the gay ear! Stemming from the 70s and 80s when it was unsafe to be publicly queer, piercings were used as subtle signals for folks to announce their sexuality to look for safe people and potential partners.

Reclaiming this symbol today is something that can be extremely powerful. Many younger queer folks are purposefully choosing to get pierced on the “gay side” to wear their identity proudly. So which ear is the gay ear?

It is such an absolute honor to tandem pierce @howthemidwestwaswon with my lovely coworker @maniabodymods while Jade’s wife (and our friend and badass coworker) @_itsanoforme held her hand. I am so blessed to have these amazing friends in my life. And thanks Sarah for hanging out and shadowing with me all day. ✨

Two (?) years ago, @hanawnuh gave me this as a gift. It’s been sitting on my desk at work, unopened, a shiny, golden part of the backdrop, since then. I kept forgetting to take it home at first, and at some point, not opening it became kind of “a thing”. I knew I would open it at some point and I knew I would know when that was. Well, while bringing some stuff home from the shop today, I knew it was time.

So, thank you Hannah. It was a thoughtful gift to begin with and I’ve enjoyed the weird little role it’s played in my world up to this point. It’s certainly a monumental time in the world and my life for it to make its “debut”.

To my Momma, and all the mothers out there, aunts, grandmas, great grandmas that I’ve have the pleasure of meeting, thank you for teaching me and showing me how to be the woman I am today, I still have so much to learn and when I look at my friends who are becoming mothers I feel so proud of them, yet terrified, you all have so much courage , patience, and love, something that I will have to master before my #punkrock kid comes into this world. Gimme a while I got time... you guys are my inspiration, I’m so grateful to have all you #hotmamas in my life! #happymothersday
