New release: Weekend Glory

Taking inspiration from Maya Angleou’s poem of the same name, director Michael McGrath, costume designer Mariana Guerrero Dingler and writer/actress Ajani Russell imagine a woman caught between the daily grind and the optimism of the weekend for short film Weekend Glory.

A creative collaboration that begins on the streets and subway platforms of New York City, Weekend Glory follows its lead from the gray monotony of her working life, to the vibrant technicolor that takes hold with the weekend – and her refusal to be worn down once this state of joy sets in. Embracing a fluid, improvisational approach on set, the project came to life through the simplicity of its story – the energy of the film mirrored in its production, materialising through close collaboration between friends, and the sharing of ideas and resources.
