POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Good evening, everyone.

I’m truly honoured to receive this Lifetime Achievement Award from Volunteer Ottawa. Thank you to everyone who made this possible. It really means a lot to me.

When I came to Canada 28 years ago, I was starting a new chapter in my life. I remember a time when I was struggling financially, and a stranger stepped in to help me. That person didn’t have to do anything for me, but they did, and I’ve never forgotten it.

That experience taught me something I’ve carried with me ever since. Sometimes, a small act of kindness can make a big difference in someone’s life.

Growing up, I also learned a lot from my grandmother. She always believed in sharing food with people who needed it. It didn’t matter how much she had, there was always something to share. That has stayed with me throughout my life and my career as a chef.

In Indian culture, we have a saying, Atithi Devo Bhava, which means the guest is God. For me, that’s what cooking and hospitality are all about. Making people feel welcome, bringing people together, and sharing what you have.

I’ve been very fortunate to build my life and career here in Ottawa. This city has given me so many opportunities, and giving back is my way of showing my appreciation.

I also want to congratulate all the other award recipients tonight: Carina Chiew, Diane Hayes, Brenda Okorogba, Janice Horton, Enbridge, Big Brothers Big Sisters Ottawa, and Perley Health. It’s wonderful to see so many people and organizations doing great work in our community.

Thank you to Volunteer Ottawa for this recognition and for bringing everyone together to celebrate the people who give so much of themselves to others.

I’m grateful for this award, but I also know there is still more to do. I hope to keep giving back, sharing food, and helping people in whatever way I can.

Thank you so much. This means a lot to me. #ottawa #coconutlagoon #mythali

Is Ottawa safe to walk with a stroller? I asked the mayoral candidates 🚸 Stroller Walk Part 4 of 4

Narrow sidewalks, missing curb cuts, a crosswalk light that gives you seven seconds, and a pickup truck that doesn’t stop. If you push a stroller in this city, you know.

For the last episode, I asked all four 2026 Ottawa mayoral candidates (Mark Sutcliffe @_marksutcliffe, Jeff Leiper @jleiper, Alex Lawson @alexlawsonottawa and Neil Saravanamuttoo @saravanamuttoo) the same question: what will you do to make Ottawa’s streets, sidewalks and intersections safe for kids and families?

Save this before you vote. Send it to the parent in your group chat who’s still undecided, and to anyone who has ever had to roll a stroller out onto the road because the sidewalk ended.
