What a night ! Huge thanks to @thebruhaus.art, the amazing artists who donated their work, and everyone who came out, collected, and supported. Together we raised over $5,550 from art sales (!!) — with even more coming in from donations. Every dollar goes directly to @siempreunidosla, a small but mighty volunteer-run org that discreetly delivers groceries and hygiene essentials to families impacted by ICE raids and kidnappings. This show was all about supporting their food program @comidaparatodos_sula — and we did it, together. 💛 Thank you to my family for the behind-the-scenes support and to @siempreunidosla for providing the DJ , bartender & tequila 🍹— and for everything you do. Huge thank you @mayolo_figueroa for these photos!!!! 🎨 It’s not too late to collect a piece — reach out for remaining available works!

“Persona: Exploring Self-Portraiture” opens on April 26 @forestlawnmuseum. The exhibition will include the work of more than 20 contemporary artists, including Mika Yokota, who is a Japanese-American immigrant living and working in the Bay Area. She is currently an artist-in-residence at Kala Art Institute in Berkeley, CA. In her printmaking, figures and symbols tumble together to discover what it means to reclaim the femme intuition and access to bodily knowledge as a guiding source. The people in Yokota’s work support one another through deep listening, stillness, witnessing, curiosity, and the exchange of one’s own rawness. The peculiar configurations form a body-based language that is felt, not spoken, expanding access to unfamiliar or hidden parts of ourselves.  Mika Yokota   Architecture of Living viii  Silkscreen on Rives BFK printmaking paper  2025  Courtesy of the Artist   Opening reception: Join us for the opening reception on Saturday, April 26 from 5-7:30 PM at Forest Lawn Museum. To RSVP visit https://forestlawn.com/exhibits/persona-exploring-self-portraiture-2/

Attended @_mikayokota solo show at @residencyart last night. Not only were the pieces in this collection beautifully crafted, the artist shared the rich context behind the pieces, which helped bring them to life. Mika mixes culture, exploration of ancestry, and spirituality so seamlessly into her work. It draws you in and reminds you we as humans are more deeply connected than we often realize. Oh, did I mention @residencyart is Black-owned and in Inglewood, California? Don’t say I don’t tell you about nice things 🙃.
