From the 504 to LA.

Bro. Mitchell J. Stevens, II graduates from the University of California, Los Angeles with a Bachelor of Science in Human Biology and Society and a Minor in African American Studies. Scholastically, he graduates with Highest Departmental Honors from the Institute for Society and Genetics, recognizing his outstanding academic achievement and commitment to interdisciplinary scholarship.

Mitchell is a Spring 2024 initiate of the Gamma Xi Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated, where he has faithfully served the chapter in numerous leadership capacities including Chapter President (2024–2025), Chapter Vice President (2025–2026), Director of Membership Intake, Financial Secretary, Parliamentarian, Historian, and Chaplain. During his presidency, he established the Gamma Xi Alumni Association, led impactful programming, strengthened alumni engagement, secured formal recognition of the chapter’s service from the City of Los Angeles, and helped position Gamma Xi for continued success. Throughout his tenure, Mitchell devoted his time to preserving the chapter’s legacy by recovering lost pieces of Gamma Xi’s history, culminating in the rediscovery of the chapter’s original 1947 Charter. His stewardship ensured that the chapter’s rich history will continue to inspire generations of brothers to come.

Beyond the fraternity, Mitchell distinguished himself as an Undergraduate Researcher in the Department of Microbiology, Immunology, and Molecular Genetics, a Ralph J. Bunche Research Fellow, a Peer Counselor within UCLA’s Academic Advancement Program, and a mentor for the Vice Provost Initiative for Pre-College Scholars (VIPS). Through research, mentorship, and education, he remained committed to expanding opportunities for underrepresented students while advancing scholarship centered on health equity and the Black experience.

Within the Black Bruin community, Mitchell became known for his unwavering commitment to service, collaboration, and institution-building.
