LIZ TROSPER @_not_jack_white
🫟 This brilliant woman has just installed the tallest paintings The Gallery at UTA has seen to date; salvaged dead yuccas and planted her own garden of digital artifacts in the historic atrium of the Fine Arts Building; and reanimated lengths of discarded urban umbilical cords - literally drawing with them in architectural space.

“190 feet isn’t that much,” according to Liz. You’ll see what she means in the exhibition space.

She is genuinely fascinated by pipes, hoses, cables, and wires, turning overlooked infrastructure into something vibrant, strange, and newly alive. Her painter’s mind keeps dragging these materials between urban landscapes, studio surfaces, screens, and scanners, fixating on their capacity to carry and transmit, particularly beyond the point of disposal on city curbsides.

Infrastructure and anatomy are beautifully at play in Liz’s new self-portrait series. The work is dermal and vermicular, infused with the kind of “central-core imagery” associated with feminist art.

🫟I can’t resist the magnetic pull of the pixelated lava of the belly button in one of Liz’s paintings. This humble bodily center looks out through the space, piercing it as a point of connection.

@utarlington is incredibly fortunate to have Liz here: an artist whose vibrant practice pushes painting into conversations with technology, community, and the economies of discarded materials.

Kudos to our wonderfully easygoing team who made this ambitious install feel effortless: @calenbarnum , @imjoniibass , @estenhammar , @visionartstx . And we’re grateful to @barrywhistlergallery for lending additional work by Liz.

Come get entangled with us.
