Cooly Gold / Round 1 of the @shawandpartnersironseries done! The main thing I took away from watching on the sidelines last year is that this race is HARD and it certainly lived up to my expectations. I enjoyed the challenge of training for and doing the Gold, and was happy to finish in 9th 😁

I love races like this that require lots of logistics, planning and handlers, and am so grateful for the best support team to do it with.

Lots more racing to come over the next few weeks 💫

A snippet from of our session with Zoe who is rehabbing her ACL and prepping for return to soccer.

We’re spending time working on agility, lower limb stability and foot mechanics which is essential for knee health but also important as she has a history of shin splints.

Footwork 👣

Your feet are your connection to the ground.

Every time you stand, walk, run or jump, they provide the first point of contact with the world around you.
They gather information about the surface beneath you and send that information to your brain, allowing your nervous system to make constant adjustments for balance, stability and movement.

If the foot isn’t loading efficiently, the rest of the body often has to compensate.

On the reformer, we can explore how your foot contacts the footbar, how pressure moves through the heel, forefoot and toes, and how this influences the rest of your body.

Often small changes at the feet create noticeable changes higher up the chain.

And if you are someone who feels their foot mechanics change under more demanding tasks (jumping, running) we can utilise the jump board to assess and train this too!

🏃‍♂️ Running isn’t just about pushing off, it’s also about absorbing force 🏃‍♀️
We know that running can produce 2-3 x bodyweight. With every step your body needs to decelerate, control the load and prepare for the next stride.

After injury the body can have compensatory strategies to avoid loading the once injured body. It’s important to ensure the body is comfortable absorbing these forces.
Exercises in the last slide:

1. Walking lunge
2. Propulsive lunge forward/sideways
3. Drop jump DL/SL landing
4. Med ball drop and catch

Lateral knee pain

You’ve been working on hip stability, getting stronger but that niggle is still there?
Targeting the spiral line may help.

The body works in connected systems not isolated parts. One of these is known as the spiral line. A chain of connective tissue that wraps around the trunk to the opposite hip, leg and foot managing rotation through the body.

When this system isn’t working well, tension in the trunk can impact the hip and therefore the lower leg.
You might see:
- the knee drifting in
- poor control during landing
- load shifting to the outside of the knee
- twisted trunk

Here we’re combining: Manual therapy, trunk control and lower limb stability to unwind the body.

Returning to Running post injury? 🏃‍♂️

Running is a series of single leg hops. Your body needs to learn how to absorb and control these forces.

Here are some examples of exercises to begin with!

Tight hamstrings? 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️

Stretching might feel good.. but it may not be solving your issue.
If you have been stretching with no success, maybe it’s time to change your approach.

Change the system not just the “problem”

And that’s a wrap on season ‘26!
Walking away from Aussies with 2 gold, 3 silvers, a bronze and a 🍫 with races I’m all extremely proud of and the way both my teammates and myself fought to the very end.
This season has been one I came into on my own terms, and I’m incredibly grateful for the support I’ve had as I pursue my passions in my sport and career simultaneously 🏊🏼‍♀️ 🚑 🌊 📚
The setup I’ve had this season has been extensive and to most looking in from the outside, peculiar, but it’s worked and that’s because of the people around me wanting the best for Naomi, the person. They say it takes a village, but how lucky am I to have two.
My club @bmd_northcliffe @floodn and my surrogate club @manlylsc @manlysocialclubbies @scottyssquad_
My swim squad @aquaculture_swim @seandavis2107 and my surrogate swim squad @bond_swimming @matt_poole1
My S&C coach @mbphysicaltherapist
My wellness team @rigsbrookvale @_perfectlyhuman_ @kristybuist , and my psych
My uni @utassport
My family
My friends
My sponsors @shawandpartners_ @raceone_surfcraft @eevans100 @koziiswim @koziikay
And myself, believing.

I came into this season putting my happiness first and whilst there’s been plenty of stress and doubt as I tried to juggle it all, I’m walking away from this season happy, and that’s the result I’m most proud of in the end 🫶🏽 (though a close second is that Taplin win)
