✊🏽Following week-long protests calling for justice & police reform, NYC plans to immortalize the movement in the City’s streets.
⠀
The first “Black Lives Matter” tribute will appear near City Hall. The remaining four streets in QNS, BK, BX, and SI will be decided with participants, activists, & city leaders.
⠀
To ensure that this is more than performative street art, NYC City Council’s subcommittee on public safety is holding a meeting today to discuss & vote on legislation re:
✅Police Reform & Accountability
✅Bill to Ban Chokeholds
✅Right to Record Police Activity
✅Requirement for Officers to Make Shield & Rank Visible
✅Implementing a System to that Evaluates Officers & Access their Need for Training, Monitoring, or Reassignment
✨Among others

🦾🤖 As NYC begins its phased reopening, some restaurants are thinking of creative ways to welcome back patrons in a contact-free manner.
⠀
Back in the 1930’s, 40’s, and 50’s, Automats were all the rage. It was a vending machine that dispensed fresh food that had been prepared by real people. Many people consider Automats to be the precursor to fast food.
⠀
One restaurant, in particular, plans to debut this vending system in July of this year. @brooklyndumplingshop may be on to something with bringing back this beloved method of food-ordering.
⠀
What do you think? Would you visit an Automat?

Reposting this video from @queensmuseum and @_queensbound_ to share a beautiful new project. These are excerpts from a new commission, “In the Here and Now.” Read more in the caption below. Check it out at the links in their bios. ⁣

Posted @withregram • @queensmuseum The second project commissioned by the Queens Museum for this week's @occny "ENTER" program is "In the Here and Now" by @_queensbound_ !⠀⁣
⠀⁣
QUEENSBOUND is a collaborative audio project that seeks to connect writers across the borough, showcase and develop a literature of Queens, and reflect the borough back to itself.⠀⁣
⠀⁣
For "In the Here and Now", nine poets from the QUEENSBOUND project created an "exquisite corpse poem": a collaborative poem whose primary rule is that each participant is unaware of what the previous contributor has written. Each poet wrote 7 lines in honor of the 7 train that runs through Queens 🚇, which is sometimes referred to as the “International Express”.⠀⁣
⠀⁣
Contributors: Nadia Q. Ahmad, Rosebud Ben-Oni, Pichchenda Bao, Nana Brew-Hammond, Jared Harel, Abeer Y. Hoque, Joseph O. Legaspi, Robert Ostrom, KC Trommer⠀⁣
